Jelly Roll is ending the year with a bang after a pardon for his past criminal offenses.
On Thursday, December 18, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that he will be granting pardons to 33 individuals, including the two-time Grammy nominee.
The pardon represents official forgiveness from the state for Jelly Roll, whose lyrics and public image have long focused on his incarceration, rehabilitation, and personal growth.
“It was evident to me that this is a man who should get a pardon,” Lee told reporters, per the Nashville Tennessean (via USA Today).
Jelly Roll’s pardon reflects the life-changing transformation he’s made throughout the years since his rise to fame.
“His story is remarkable, and it’s a redemptive, powerful story, which is what you look for and what you hope for,” Lee added (via The Associated Press).
