While Katy Perry has visited the Montreal mansion that was just bought by Justin Trudeau, her boyfriend and former Canadian Prime Minister, she has a few enviable properties of her own.
“The pop star and former American Idol judge has been snapping up some of California’s most desirable real estate,” Robb Report noted while addressing her “impressive” $40 million property portfolio, which is “now anchored by two major estates in Montecito and a sleek double-wide penthouse in one of L.A.’s most star-studded towers.”
$11 Million West Hollywood Penthouse
In 2023, Perry purchased a penthouse in West Hollywood for $11 million.
“Perry is the latest in a long list of A-listers to land at Sierra Towers, the legendary Jack A. Charney-designed high-rise that stands at the border between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills,” according to Robb Report. The “building has long been home to the likes of Sandra Bullock, Courteney Cox, Cher, the Osbournes, and a steady rotation of other Hollywood heavy hitters.”
“The roughly 3,000-square-foot residence offers floor-to-ceiling glass, a deck with jetliner views, a rich red home theater, and an open-concept living space set high above the Sunset Strip,” per Robb Report. As for the building, “Sierra Towers remains one of L.A.’s most celebrity-dense addresses, offering 24/7 concierge service, valet parking, a state-of-the-art fitness center, private security, and an outdoor pool perched mid-tower.”
Ruby Home Luxury Real Estate explains that the “timeless appeal of the high-rise building results from the perfect combination of location, views, a discreet staff, and celebrity residents. … With its location on the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, right off the Sunset Strip, residents find the best shopping, entertainment, and dining within close proximity while enjoying views usually reserved for those homes near the top of the Santa Monica Mountains.”
$15 Million Montecito Estate
When it comes to Perry’s properties, “by far [her] most talked-about real estate purchase is a 1930s Montecito estate that became the center of a long, very public legal battle between the singer and Carl Westcott, the founder of 1-800-Flowers,” according to Robb Report.
Westcott purchased the residence in May 2020 and paid $11.3 million. Two months later, he made a deal to sell the home to Perry for $15 million. However, Robb Report explains that “[j]ust days after signing the contract, … Westcott tried to walk away, saying he’d been recovering from back surgery, was taking painkillers, and wasn’t in the right state of mind when he agreed to the sale.”
Perry and Westcott ended up taking the matter to court, and after “a years-long showdown, … in December 2023, a judge ruled that the contract was valid and that Westcott had been of sound mind,” Robb Report notes. “The two also had to work out potential damages related to lost rental income and renovations.
“The property itself is impressive: a gated, nearly 9,300-square-foot compound in the Santa Ynez foothills with two guesthouses, a tennis court, a pool, and big mountain views,” per Robb Report. “It’s believed to have undergone extensive renovations while the case dragged on, though details have stayed mostly private.”
$14.2 Million Montecito Compound
When Perry first faced issues purchasing the Montecito estate from Westcott, she ended up snapping up another home in the area. Along with her then-partner, Orlando Bloom, the singer paid $14.2 million for an 8.9-acre Mediterranean-style compound, which boasts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as Oprah Winfrey as neighbors.
The gated property — which the former couple bought after welcoming their daughter, Daisy, per Us Weekly — “includes four separate parcels, a long oak-lined drive, a four-car garage with guesthouse, a pool and poolhouse with two additional bedrooms, and a championship tennis court,” Robb Report notes. “Inside the main residence, original architectural details abound—from wood-beamed ceilings to banks of French doors overlooking the Pacific.”
