Kelly Clarkson‘s journey as a daytime talk show host is coming to an end soon and she’s feeling pretty emotional about it. The “American Idol” alum got teary-eyed after a guest thanked her for “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and praised her for changing the daytime talk show game.
Kelly Clarkson Gets Emotional Over ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Ending
During the May 27 episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” guest Rita Wilson took a moment at the end of their interview to share some sweet words about the host.
“I just want to say one thing before we go,” Wilson began. “I want to thank you for the years that you’ve been doing your show. I want to thank you for literally changing the game when it came to daytime television.”
The actress continued, “The fact that you love music, that you have brought so much music to daytime, that you have shared with us your voice, your gifts, and everyone else’s, and your incredible band. I really want to thank you, because it has made a big change in my life.”
“So thank you, Kelly,” Wilson added.
Clarkson was moved to tears by the kind words, joking, “I’m not crying.” She added, “That’s so nice.”
They shared a hug, then Clarkson addressed getting choked up. “Oh my gosh! I’m like, shut it off,” the singer said. “It’s okay. Thank you.”
Kelly Clarkson Announced the End of Her Talk Show
On February 2, Clarkson took to Instagram to share her plans to end “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“I have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ both in Los Angeles and New York,” she wrote. “There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons.”
Clarkson continued, “I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner.”
The singer noted, “Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision — but this season will be my last hosting ‘TKCS.'”
“Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives,” the “Idol” winner added. “This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on ‘The Voice’ from time to time … you never know where I might show up next.”
“But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years,” Clarkson concluded.
Later that month, during an interview on the “Today” show, she addressed the decision to call it quits.
“I think everybody probably gets the timing. Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now,” Clarkson explained. “You got kids, we’ve all got kids, and it’s one of those things when you kind of start seeing life as how precious it is, too.”
