Kelly Clarkson shared a brief update on how her kids, River and Remington, are doing since the death of their father Brandon Blackstock. The “American Idol” alum’s ex-husband passed away in August 2025.
Kelly Clarkson Shares Update on Her Kids
On January 10, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” Instagram account posted a video of Clarkson answering fan questions.
“Kelly Q&A! p.s. Who should play Kelly in a movie?!” the caption noted.
One fan asked, “What is the one thing that you do every day that brings you joy?”
“Snuggle,” the singer shared. “My kids … look they’re 9 and 11. They’re that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles.”
Clarkson continued, “There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit.”
She added, “So, it’s my two dogs, my two kids, and me. It’s a lot. It’s been really special, though, because it’s like, the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
Blackstock died in August 2025 following a battle with cancer.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the family shared at the time. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Clarkson Said She Had ‘Some Roller Coasters’ in 2025
Clarkson briefly mentioned the family loss in a December 31 YouTube video where she discussed her 2026 predictions.
“We are wrapping up another year here at the show,” she said in the video. “The year has been pretty good — um, we’ve had some roller coasters in life personally, obviously. But it’s been a good year at the show.”
Clarkson was asked, “Is there anything new you’re working on next year?”
The singer shared, “I am excited. Look, we were pretty bummed … um, life happens. We had to cancel my Vegas residency for the most part.”
Clarkson continued, “We only got to do so many shows. And it’s my favorite show we put together. So, I’m pretty stoked in July we get to start up and actually do my studio sessions.”
“And it’s not like while doing other things as well,” the “Idol” alum noted. “We got to do some that were awesome in November, but it was also me flying back and forth doing the TV show. It’s just not the same to be able to be in it and not so tired from other jobs. So, I just want to focus on it.”
