Ryan Seacrest Reveals True Feelings About His Legacy

Media personality Ryan Seacrest may not have been a household name when he first took the helm of “American Idol,” but the host has become one of the most recognizable faces in television. Now, 24 years later, Seacrest has revealed his true feelings about his legacy. Surprisingly, he hasn’t deeply considered it. “That’s a big question,” Seacrest told People in November 2025. “I haven’t thought about legacy yet.”

However, the host does have a very clear sense of the impact he wants to have on fans. “In terms of what I hope people expect from me, or get when I’m on any show, is that they feel comfortable watching it,” he said. “They enjoy it. It doesn’t seem like it’s too difficult.” For him, hosting isn’t just a job; it’s an important chance to connect with viewers.

Seacrest Believes Hosts Should Feel Familiar To Audiences

As Seacrest elaborated, the ease and comfort of watching the shows he hosts comes down to familiarity. “People can get together as a family watch the show,” he said of what he hopes his audiences feel about his shows. “And for me to make them feel comfortable, and as if we’ve known each other for a long time, even if we’ve never met.”

For the longtime “Idol” host, that connection to the audience is the main goal. “If you were a host, that’s the idea,” he said. After two decades and counting, it’s hard for most diehard viewers to imagine the show without Seacrest. Now, with the series premiering for its 24th season on January 26, 2026, Seacrest has a whole new chance to build that comfort level with fans watching at home. He’s also in the thick of Season 43 of “Wheel of Fortune,” which runs until the summer.

The Host’s Reach Goes Far Beyond Competition & Game Shows

Hosting two of the biggest shows on network TV would be enough to keep anyone busy, but Seacrest hasn’t stopped there. He’s the face of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” of course, but he also devotes a lot of time to a cause that’s dear to his heart: The Ryan Seacrest Foundation. The organization runs media centers in pediatric hospitals, giving young patients a creative outlet during some of the most trying times in their lives.

“I think this is the most important thing that I get a chance to do with my family and our organization,” Seacrest said of the foundation’s work while speaking with Good Morning America. “These are places in the center of pediatric hospitals where kids can escape the serious stuff that they’re going through,” he said. “Not only for them, but for their families, too.” No matter how busy hosting keeps Seacrest, he’s never too busy to give back.
