‘Below Deck Med’: Captain Sandy Lays Down the Law After Nathan Gallagher Lets Friendships Distract Him

Bravo’s ‘Below Deck Med’ season 10 brings back Nathan Gallagher, who’s stepped up from season 9 deckhand to bosun and Captain Sandy Yawn’s right-hand man. Early in the season, Gallagher struggled to manage an inexperienced deck team, but after a couple of much-needed firings, Yawn steps in and brings back season 9 alum Joe Bradley.

But was bringing Bradley back a mistake? In the Nov. 17 episode, Yawn begins to question whether Gallagher is slipping in his role now that his close friend is back on board.

Nathan Gallagher Gets Called out by Captain Sandy Yawn

Nathan Gallagher joined season 10 of “Below Deck Med” as a bosun, but his role may be proving more challenging than expected. In the Nov. 17 episode, Captain Sandy Yawn notices that Gallagher may be falling behind in his role as a leader and becoming too distracted by his close friendship with Joe Bradley, who rejoined the crew this season.

While on a matchmaking charter, Yawn notices that no one is on the swim platform, which is a must when guests are on board because safety is always the No. 1 priority. When Gallagher doesn’t respond to Yawn on the radio, she comes looking for him and finds him and other deck team crew member Max Salvador in the crew mess.

“I don’t want to see all three of you in the crew mess on a charter day ever again,” she tells them. “Someone needs to be on the swim platform, that upsets me,” she adds before leaving.

Sandy’s stern talking becomes a wake-up call for Gallagher. He is angered that he let his captain down, especially since this is his first role as bosun. He gets advice from his chief stew, Aesha Scott, who tells him he needs to start acting like a leader and a boss to his crew, despite his close friendships.

Will Gallagher’s Friendships Suffer?

Gallagher ends up confronting both Bradley and Salvador for not putting in their best efforts, and he isn’t being easy on them. “I feel like the guys have disrespected me,” Gallagher shares. But is he being too harsh?

In a confessional, Salvador admits, “I feel like a lack of respect. It’s about to be a storm.” Meanwhile, Bradley shares, “He’s mad.”

In fact, Bradley hopes it doesn’t ruin their friendship. “But now that he’s the bosun, I have to respect his position on board. I hope this doesn’t cause a rip in our friendship.”

When the tip meeting rolls around, Sandy shares that while she doesn’t want to come between these friendships, she hopes the deck team learn to respect Gallagher as their boss.

The crew gets a night off, and the guys’ bromance seems to be back in full swing. However, the charter season is far from over.

Gallagher Learns He’s Becoming a Father on ‘Below Deck Med’

One of the most surprising revelations from “Below Deck Med” season 10 is that Gallagher became a dad just nine months after the charter season wrapped.

In the trailer for the season, Gallagher gets a visit from his season 9 love interest and former stew, Gael Cameron. However, Gallagher and Cameron’s road to potentially rekindling their romance doesn’t seem like a smooth one.

In the trailer, he’s seen hooking up with stew Kizzi Kitchener multiple times, while the two were broken up. When Cameron comes to visit, she breaks down crying in one scene, telling Gallagher, “You hurt me so much. And not only did you hurt me the first time, you hurt me again and again.”

According to Bravo, the couple had split after the season 9 charter, but announced their reconciliation in September 2024. The couple later announced in April of this year that they were welcoming a baby boy. Their son, Kayden, was born in June 2025.

Despite what appears to be a rocky romance on season 10, the couple is now happily traveling together with baby Kayden in tow.
