‘Below Deck Med’ Star Addresses Captain Sandy Yawn After Her Surprising Firing

Bravo’s “Below Deck” and its many spinoffs are no strangers to firing crew members. Over the years, the franchise has seen its fair share of sudden goodbyes, which often stem from crew members not getting along or a lack of experience working aboard a luxurious yacht.

“Below Deck Med” season 10 saw its first firings when Captain Sandy Yawn decided to fire both deckhands, Christian Trimino and Tessa Budd. After making a few critical errors during the charter and not listening to their bosun, Nathan Gallagher, Yawn believed the deck team was in “chaos,” and firing was in order. However, Budd didn’t take her firing too kindly and had some fiery words for Yawn.

‘Below Deck Med’ Star Tessa Budd Has a Few Choice Words for Captain Sandy Yawn After Getting Fired

After two charters in which both deckhands, Christian Trimino and Tessa Budd, had not shown any improvement in the deckhand department, Captain Sandy Yawn decided to fire them both after discussing with Bosun Nathan Gallagher.

Both Trimino and Budd continued to make mistakes on board and failed to listen to Gallagher’s directions. Additionally, Trimino and deckhand Max Salvador’s constant arguing during docking just highlighted how unprofessional the deck team appeared.

During episode 5, Yawn tells Gallagher that he has to decide to let either one of them go. Ultimately, both Budd and Trimino are fired.

Yawn delivers the bad news to Trimino first. He admits to being “disappointed,” but he knows he made a huge mistake last charter when he allowed a drunk charter guest to get into the water at night, among other errors.

“I have to make a change. I’m really sorry, but I gotta let you go. I know you come from a big boat, which is a different type of experience, but if I may, get on small boats, because [on] small boats, you learn everything,” Yawn tells Budd.

While Budd remained professional while speaking to Yawn, she didn’t hold back when talking privately to the cameras.

“Honestly, like, [expletive] her; I don’t need her help,” Tessa said. “I feel like Nathanโ€™s leadership style is pretty [expletive.] I feel like I also didn’t get the opportunity to, like, show my skills. Good luck. It’s their loss.”

In another confessional, she added, “I hope on my next boat that my bosun believes in me and has half a brain cell.”

Who Replaced the Deck Team?

After firing both Trimno and Budd, the deck team was down to just two members, Gallagher and Salvador. Captain Yawn was determined to reach out to any former crew members she had previously worked with to see if any were available to join the team immediately.

After making some calls, Captain Yawn shared with Gallagher and Chief Stew Aesha Scott that Joe Bradley will be joining the team. Bradley worked with both Gallagher and Scott in season 9 as a lead deckhand, and they were excited to have him return.

However, Captain Yawn also requested that stewardess Victoria SanJuan work both in the interior and with the deck team after learning that she had quite the experience working deckhand duties. In the episode, SanJuan did amazing during her initial run as part of the exterior.
