The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, 58, took to her Instagram Stories on Monday, April 20, to share a throwback photo of herself alongside Patrick Muldoon from their time together on “Days of Our Lives.
She added a red broken heart emoji to the image.
Muldoon Passed Unexpectedly
The post came just one day after Muldoon died from a heart attack on Sunday, April 19.
Muldoon, best known for his roles on “Days of Our Lives,” “Melrose Place” and “Starship Troopers,” was a familiar face to fans of ’90s television and film.
His death sent shockwaves through the entertainment community, with friends and colleagues sharing memories of the actor in the days since the news broke.
The tribute carried particular weight given the history between Rinna and Muldoon.
Rinna and Muldoon Previously Were a Brief Item
In a 2021 episode of the podcast “PEOPLE in the 90s,” co-hosted by Andrea Lavinthal and Jason Sheeler, Rinna opened up about a romantic connection the two shared during their soap opera days.
Asked about her most surreal ‘90s moment, she didn’t hesitate.
“Having an affair with the guy who played my brother,” she said, before clarifying: “Well, not an affair, but a couple of one-night stands with the guy who played my brother. Patrick Muldoon and I had like, a thing.”
She was quick to note the relationship preceded her marriage to Harry Hamlin.
Rinna played Billie Reed on “Days of Our Lives from” 1992 to 1995, while Muldoon played her onscreen brother Austin Reed during the same period.
The two later crossed paths again on “Melrose Place,” another defining soap of the decade, and both returned to “Days of Our Lives” at various points to reprise their respective roles.
Muldoon Was Excited About the Future
What makes Muldoon’s passing all the more jarring is how sudden it was. Just two days before his passing, he had posted on Instagram about an exciting new project.
Muldoon had been cast in Kockroach, a crime film directed by Matt Ross and based on William Lashner’s 2007 novel of the same name.
The film features a star-studded lineup including Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz and Alec Baldwin, and is currently filming in Australia.
“So excited to be a part of this amazing project,” Muldoon wrote in his final public post, his enthusiasm clear.
The film follows a mysterious outsider who rises through New York’s criminal underworld to build a powerful empire, according to IMDb.
