“Married to Medicine” star Dr. Heavenly Kimes has honestly discussed her relationship with her son, providing fans of the show with an update on the pair following a turbulent few years on the reality show. Kimes and Damon Kimes Jr. had a public falling out during season 12 of the Bravo show but are not in a much better place and are moving in a positive direction.
Dr. Heavenly Kimes Is Positive About Her Relationship With Damon Kimes Jr.
In an interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, Kimes was asked about what it was like to have to go through a public feud on television and how she and her son have attempted to repair the relationship.
“That’s a very difficult thing to talk about,” she said. “It came out on social media. It’s been very challenging. Even to talk about it now is challenging.”
She continued, “But I’ll tell you one thing, it’s a testimony that my son is here. He’s alive. Things could have went very different for him based on what he did. So I thank God every day that my son is alive and that he’s well.”
Kimes then went on to explain how she and her husband take different approaches to parenting. While Dr. Damon Kimes works hard to be on the same page as his wife, she admits that she often feels like the bad guy as he is not as strict with them.
“We have a unified front, but he’s softer on the kids if you will, and I’m the mean guy,” she added. “I’m the guy that’s going to be the more disciplinarian…I think one thing that we do have [is] a very solid relationship that we based on love. No matter how many issues we have, we have to go back to that love for our family.”
The Relationship Originally Broke Down in 2023
Kimes and her son initially fell out in 2023 after she discovered that he had been arrested. What made matters worse was the fact that she didn’t find out about the original arrest until many months later when it was reported on social media.
According to court documents seen on “Married to Medicine,” her son was arrested for “aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.”
During an episode of the series, Kimes revealed that after she confronted him, ana argument broke out that led to her son leaving home. “When I heard the news, I probably got too angry with my son,” she explained. “I don’t remember what I said. It was probably a lot of cussing; a lot of profanity was there. He just got his stuff together and he left the house, and I have not physically seen him in months.”
However, things now look to be on the mend, with the reality star adding that she is “hopeful for the future” and that she wants him to do “whatever he has to prove to himself, that he does that and he moves forward.”
