A Mini ‘Glee’ Reunion Hits a High Note Backstage on Broadway

For “Glee” fans, nostalgia struck a high note this week when Matthew Morrison reunited with former castmates Kevin McHale and Jonathan Groff backstage at a Broadway production in New York City.

The trio crossed paths at Circle in the Square Theatre, where Groff currently stars in “Just in Time,” a new jukebox musical about singer Bobby Darin. McHale shared a photo from the reunion on social media, showing the three smiling together in a rare moment that bridged their “Glee” past with their present-day careers.

Though brief, the meetup quickly gained attention online, reminding fans that the relationships formed on the hit Fox musical series continue years after its 2015 finale.

From McKinley High to Center Stage

Morrison, who played upbeat teacher Will Schuester on “Glee,” has spent recent years balancing acting with music. He is currently touring with his concert series “Rhythms & Revelations,” which blends Broadway numbers, pop covers, and personal storytelling.

McHale, best known for portraying Artie Abrams, has also returned to the stage. He is appearing Off-Broadway in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a revival of the Tony Award-winning musical. Groff, who appeared on “Glee” as Jesse St. James, has built a celebrated career on Broadway, earning Tony Awards and praise for his work in productions such as “Hamilton” and “Spring Awakening.”

Their reunion did not involve a performance, but its location felt fitting. Broadway has long served as a common thread for many “Glee” alumni, several of whom have maintained strong ties to theater even as their careers expanded into television and film.

A Cast That Still Shows Up

McHale shared the backstage moment on Instagram, posting a photo of himself with Morrison and Groff and tagging the production. In a separate clip, McHale and actor Leana Rae Concepcion appeared hugging Groff backstage, adding another layer of warmth to the reunion.

The interaction underscored how frequently “Glee” cast members continue to support one another’s work. Over the years, former castmates have attended Broadway shows, concerts, and premieres together, often sharing glimpses of those moments with fans online.

While “Glee” explored themes of ambition, performance, and belonging, the real-life relationships behind the scenes appear to have endured. The show launched or elevated the careers of many young performers, and those shared beginnings continue to connect them even as their paths diverge.

More than a decade after “Glee” first premiered in 2009, interest in the series remains strong. Fans still revisit its musical numbers, celebrate cast achievements, and speculate about reunions, both large and small.
