It looks like Dr. Dre is leaving Malibu. The music industry icon has sold his longtime mansion in the area and made quite a profit in the process.
“Dr. Dre has finally found a buyer for his Malibu beach house, offloading it in an off-market deal for $16.5 million,” according to Architectural Digest. “The legendary rapper, producer, and Beats co-founder initially bought the nearly 9,000-square-foot behemoth property back in 2000 for a now-inconceivable price tag of $4.8 million.”
The Impressive Home Is Found in the ‘Billionaire’s Beach’ Area
As you might imagine, Dre’s now-former home is beyond impressive. First of all, the “six-bedroom, seven-bathroom dwelling is situated on a gated lot in Carbon Beach, a beachfront enclave nicknamed ‘Billionaire’s Beach,’ known for its ultra-wealthy residents,” per AD.
Social Life Magazine adds that “Carbon Beach earned its ‘Billionaire’s Beach’ moniker through the concentration of tech and entertainment moguls who own its approximately 100 homes. Unlike public beaches, Carbon Beach properties include private beach rights, creating an exclusive enclave just 30 minutes from downtown LA.”
When it comes to Dre’s mansion, AD explains that the “tri-level property features large picture windows and glass sliding doors that boast panoramic ocean views of the Pacific Ocean and flood the space with natural light.”
AD also notes that the “kitchen is outfitted with stainless steel appliances, black countertops, blonde wood cabinetry, and a breakfast nook. The entertainment area connects to a beige- and white-accented living room and has floor-to-ceiling stone walls, a wood-burning fireplace, and a sprawling balcony with a fire pit.”
When it’s time for the residents to retire for the night, they’ll find a “boutique-style walk-in closet, sauna, two reading nooks, and an expansive oceanfront balcony occupy the upstairs primary bedroom,” AD says while also pointing out that “[o]ther amenities of Dr. Dre’s Malibu retreat include a gym, a water-facing recording studio, and an office.”
Dr. Dre First Put His Home on the Market in 2012
Dre has been trying to pass the home on to a new owner for a while now. “The seven-time Grammy winner attempted to sell his coastal abode in 2012 for prices ranging from $11 million to $12.5 million,” AD explained.
The decision to offload the abode came after his ex-wife Nicole Young filed for divorce after 24 years of marriage in 2020. Young stayed in the home until December 2021 while their split was worked out. AD notes that the “courts ordered Dr. Dre to pay Young $100 million as part of the settlement agreement, while the multihyphenate was allowed to retain all of their properties, including the Malibu manse.”
