Recent divorce rumors surrounding Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani may have made headlines, but Shelton recently put any speculation to rest by publicly supporting his wife on Instagram following her No Doubt Las Vegas residency performance.
The couple will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary this July, having tied the knot back in 2021. While their relationship remains strong, Shelton’s road to finding lasting love with Stefani included two previous marriages. Here’s a look at Shelton’s dating history.
Blake Shelton’s Romance History
Before his connection with Stefani, Shelton was famously married to fellow country music star Miranda Lambert. The pair met back in 2005 while performing together at CMT’s 100 greatest Duets Concert. The two dated for five years before Shelton proposed in 2010.
“He called my dad and got his blessing first,” Lambert told People. “That was so Southern and old-school and perfect.”
“We’ve been together five years,” she added. “So he knew exactly what I wanted but it’s so much more perfect than I could have picked out myself.”
Shelton and Lambert wed in 2011, and quickly became one of country music’s most recognizable power couples. However, their demanding schedules proved to be too much, and they eventually split in 2015.
“This is not the future we envisioned,” the pair said in a joint statement to US Weekly. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
Prior to Lambert, Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams from 2003 to 2006. The two met in their home town of Ada, Oklahoma, and Williams supported him early in his career, serving as both his girlfriend and tour manager before the couple married. However, their marriage didn’t last, and they went their separate ways in 2006.
Marriage to Stefani
While Shelton’s previous marriages ended, the eventually led him to an unexpected connection with Stefani.
The two met while serving as coaches on The Voice in 2014. At the time, both were navigating highly publicized divorces. Shelton had recently split from Lambert, and Stefani was ending her marriage to Gavin Rossdale.
The shared experience brought them closer, and by November 2015, they had confirmed their romantic relationship. The couple then made their red carpet debut together in February of 2016 and became one of entertainment’s favorite couples.
Shelton proposed in 2020, and the couple married over the Fourth of July weekend in 2021.
