The show of the summer is officially back. The highly anticipated premiere of Love Island USA kicked off with its signature high-energy dance ensemble. Accompanied by host Ariana Madix. We start off with our usual dance ensemble of the cast to Sigala’s “Say You Do.”
As the vibrant villa lights flicked on for the first time, Love Island USA narrator, Iain Stirling, announced a massive milestone: it has officially been eight years since the US franchise began its journey—a long, wild evolution from its early pandemic days. They filmed in Las Vegas on the rooftop of The Cromwell hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Choosing to relocate during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic.
The First Couples of the Summer
The premiere wasted no time introducing the first two islanders of the season, Aniya and Kenzie, who shared an enthusiastic toast to finding their future husbands and what could be the best summer ever. The rest of the ladies soon followed in. A parade of men also soon followed. Bringing the usual slick intros and montages detailing exactly what everyone is looking for in a partner.
Instead of the traditional lineup-and-step-forward coupling process, producers introduced a brand-new premiere game to dictate the initial matches. Islanders were instructed to stand by a series of doors based on their preferences to a wild range of questions. Ending in a blind kiss with whoever was waiting on the opposite side.
By the end, the doors of destiny revealed the season’s starting lineup:
- Bryce & Trinity
- Sean & Beatriz
- Zach & Kenzie
- Sincere & Melanie: Sincere’s door actually revealed a double-threat, with both Aniya and Melanie waiting on the other side to couple up with him. Sincere ultimately chose Melanie, leaving Aniya temporarily single.
- KC & Aniya: Because KC’s door uniquely opened to no one on the other side. He was left single on the bench alongside Aniya. By default, the two remaining singles were matched up together.
With the first groupings locked in, the islanders went off to tour the luxury villa in Fiji. Pulling each other for private poolside chats before settling in for their first night. By morning, the classic Love Island routine was in full swing, complete with morning debriefs and the mandatory preparation of breakfast, including the infamous avocado toast.
The Green and Red Dot Dilemma
The honeymoon phase didn’t last long, like breakfast did. As night fell, true Love Island USA chaos arrived when the doors reappeared. This time, the islanders were forced to make a public, high-stakes declaration regarding their current compatibility. Standing on opposite sides of a door once more, each person had to step onto one of two markers: a green dot indicated they were entirely happy in their current match, while a red dot signaled they wanted to break away and explore external connections.
The results instantly fractured the villa’s peace:
- Sean & Beatriz: Sean stepped confidently onto the green dot, but Beatriz chose the red dot—a move foreshadowed earlier in the day when she admitted to the girls that Sean having a child was a personal red flag.
- Zach & Kenzie: In a brutal asymmetry, Zach chose the red dot while Kenzie stepped onto the green. Mentioning he was not attracted to Kenzie, prior.
- Bryce & Trinity: There was mutual agreement here, with both islanders stepping directly onto the red dot.
- KC & Aniya: The default pairing found common ground, with both opting for the green dot.
- Sincere & Melanie: The premiere’s first strong frontrunners remained solid, both choosing the green dot.
Enter the Bombshells
Just as the islanders processed the awkward visual layout of who was looking to stray, host Ariana Madix delivered with a game changing twist. Madix, explained that any islander standing on a green dot was officially locked into their couple and completely off limits to exploring with new bombshells. Anyone on a red dot, however, was fair game for the open market.
Right on cue, two stunning new bombshells strutted into the villa: Kayda and Gabriel. (In a bit of behind-the-scenes reality lore, Gabriel was originally slated for the core OG lineup but was moved to a bombshell slot following the sudden removal of cast-mate, Vasana, over controversial remarks).
To establish dominance and stake their claims, the bombshells were instructed to kiss the islanders they were most attracted to before heading off toward the hideaway. Gabriel laid it on thick by planting kisses on Beatriz (blindsiding Sean) and Trinity (leaving Bryce). Meanwhile, Kayda turned heads by kissing Bryce and Zach, leaving a vulnerable Kenzie in the dust.
The premiere episode cut just as the uneasiness began to settle, leaving fans with a tantalizing teaser of the emotional fallout scheduled for tomorrow night.
Love Island USA airs exclusively on Peacock, dropping new episodes every day except Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET.
