Beloved country artist Tim McGraw was announced as a 2026 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the Modern Era category.
In addition to McGraw, The Stanley Brothers were announced for the Veteran’s Era category, and Paul Overstreet in the Songwriters category.
The “Don’t Take the Girl” artist was visibly emotional while giving his speech about his induction on Friday, March 20.
Tim McGraw Tearfully Thanks His Wife
McGraw was a puddle of tears as he accepted the honor of his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“Anybody who knows me knows I’m a crier. I cry at bad commercials,” he began, as seen in a video shared via YouTube. “I’m going try to get through this, had to write it down because if I try doing it, nothing good would come out.”
The “My Best Friend” artist was not fibbing as the tears began to roll almost immediately.
As he reached the part of his speech where he paid tribute to his family, McGraw grew more emotional.
“It’s also fitting that it’s National Women’s History Month,” he said. “And everyone who knows me knows that I wouldn’t be standing here today if it wasn’t for the great women in my life. From my grandmother, to my mom, my sisters, my daughters. And most of all, my wife.”
He continued, “Thank you baby. I would not be standing here today, if it wasn’t for you. Nor would I want to be. And I can’t wait for the day when I’m sitting there and you’re standing here.”
Tim McGraw Gushes About Wife Faith Hill
McGraw and Hill have been the country music “It” couple for decades.
Two years after first meeting at a gig in Nashville in 1994, the pair began dating. They went on tour together in 1996 and McGraw proposed on stage.
“We were in the dressing room, here, June 26, 1996, and it was raining and stuff and we’d been on tour for a while together, and I joked around with her about getting married. And so I looked at her, grabbed her by the hands, and dropped forward [on my knees] onstage,” he recalled in October 2015, per People. “She said, ‘We’re at a country music festival in a trailer house, and you’re asking me to marry you?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I went onstage … When I came back offstage, [I saw] a Sharpie with lipstick kisses all over it, saying, ‘Yes! I’m gonna be your wife.’ “
The couple tied the knot that same year and went on to welcome three daughters: Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey.
