“Today” weather anchor Al Roker loves spreading positivity and joy when he’s not on the famous NBC set. In a new social media update, Roker opened up about his latest walking habits.
Of course, he also wished fans a lovely weekend and encouraged them to set great goals and healthy habits for the week ahead. See what Al Roker shared and what fans had to say.
Al Roker Gives Interval Walking a Try
“Today” anchor Al Roker has always been open about his weight loss journey. After undergoing a gastric bypass in 2002, he’s worked hard to keep his weight at more manageable levels. Even into his 70s, Roker tries to lead an active lifestyle and keep moving.
“Just tried something new for my walk. Have you heard of #japanesewalking It’s interval walking. 3:00 of a hard walk; where you have trouble holding a sustained conversation. Then 3:00 of a normal walk. It let me walk further,” the weather anchor shared in a new Instagram update.
Roker filmed himself out on his morning walk and wished his fans an excellent day.
“Well, good morning, everybody. Hope you’re having a good Sunday,” the 71-year-old addressed his audience while on his morning walk. “Beautiful morning here. No wind, a little warm. The lake is calm. I hope you’re calm. I hope you get a little zen, a little morning chance to reflect.”
“Be grateful for what worked well last week and what you want to do for this week,” Roker advised. “What’s the one thing you want to get done? I have three. Not going to share, but once you have something, make it easy, a little moderate, a little harder. If you get through two out of three, life is pretty good. Anyway, I hope you have a great day. See you Monday on ‘Today.’ Bye!”
Overall, fans thought the “Today” anchor had great advice.
“I love the way you live Al! Farmers markets, walks, reflection and good food. 👏” one fan noted.
“Thanks, Al. I wasn’t very motivated to do anything until I saw this! Now I’m making a list to get myself MOVING!! 😎” another chimed in.
“Thank you for the Sunday motivation @alroker! Hope you have a great week!” someone else added.
The Weather Anchor Enjoys Uplifting Hobbies
In addition to walking and healthy habits, Al Roker has also grown quite fond of birding. He has a passion for nature and loves being outdoors.
“I did an interview with Matt Kracht, author of ‘The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America,'” Roker remembered in an interview with Birds & Blooms. “It’s a fun book. He would sketch these birds and give them great names, some of which you can’t repeat in polite company. I thought it was interesting.”
The “Today” anchor went on to say how he picked up bird watching during the pandemic. While isolated with his family at their home in upstate New York, he grew fascinated with watching robins.
“We watched the baby birds hatch, grow, and be fed, so when I saw something about a wi-fi bird feeder, I thought, well, I like technology,” the 71-year-old added. “This might be fun. I decided, what the heck, why not? We would always hear birds, and every now and then we’d see hummingbirds, but I was never able to watch them. This gives you the ability to watch birds and see them in their natural habitat, but you’re not bothering them. It’s a win-win.”
