Amanda Kloots gave a rare and vulnerable look into her grief and the way it has impacted her young son, Elvis Cordero. In 2020, Nick Cordero, her husband and Elvis’s father, died from complications relating to COVID-19. He was 41.
Amanda Kloots Shares a Powerful Message About Grief
On August 25, Kloots posted several photos and a video clip on Instagram. They show Elvis and Kloots engaging in activities together and posing for a photo. The footage also gives a glimpse into what a grief camp called Camp Erin looks like. In the caption, Kloots shared her thoughts in a vulnerable and honest way, but her message is also one of hope.
“Hi, my name is Elvis, and I want to get rid of sadness,” she began her message, sharing a statement that her son had made. “Today, Elvis and I shared a powerful moment at Camp Erin, a grief camp created to bring hope and healing to kids and families. Through an exercise called ‘plate smashing,’ he bravely wrote his feelings down about grief, spoke them out loud, and then let them go! I was really proud of him for doing this.”
Kloots discussed how this was the first time Elvis, who is six, had sat with other children who have experienced loss, and in doing so, he realized he is not alone in his sadness. The former “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 competitor, who competed for the Mirrorball Trophy alongside Alan Bersten, also used her caption as a way to thank those involved in the camp.
She concluded, “Grief is heavy, but days like this remind us that healing is possible. If this work speaks to your heart, I invite you to support @elunanetwork and @ourhousegrief so more families can experience the gift of hope and community.”
Amanda Kloots Receives an Outpouring of Love & Support
Fans have shown their love and support for Kloots in the comment section of the post. “Camp Erin is life-changing. It helped us so much,” a comment reads. “So proud of you,” another person wrote.
Other reactions include, “Tremendous and important work- thank you,” “This is so beautiful,” and “The ‘not alone’ piece is the backbone to healing. Wishing this tenfold and grace for you and Elvis.”
Kloots has previously shared details of how her late husband felt about becoming a dad. In an Instagram post in honor of Elvis’s fifth birthday on June 10, 2024, she posted throwback photos from his birth, which included Nick. “I’m super nostalgic today, so forgive all the photos that might be posted. I don’t think you ever feel as close to your partner as you do on the day your child is born. It’s a crazy and beautiful moment that I’ll never forget,” she wrote in the caption.
Kloots called Nick “the cutest new dad” and said he was “so proud.”
