“Dancing With the Stars” alum Frankie Muniz is hitting pause on the fast lane. The “Malcolm in the Middle” star turned NASCAR driver revealed he broke his wrist after a fall at home, sidelining his racing career for the next several weeks.
Freak Accident in the Backyard
Muniz, 39, shared the details on Instagram, announcing he suffered a freak accident in his backyard. The accident involved him taking a serious fall from a ladder while changing the batteries in his Ring camera. Celebrities, they’re just like us!
The fall resulted in a broken wrist for the season 25 contestant on “DWTS.” Muniz shared the news with a black-and-white photo of himself in his racing uniform. He wrote on the photo, “Breaking news… literally.” He then went into more detail about the fall in the caption, which will sideline him from his racing career for up to two months.
Muniz wrote, “The phrase ‘FML’ (Frankie Muniz’s Life) takes on new meaning with moments like these. I’m disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. Yesterday, I fell from the top of a ladder while changing the batteries in a Ring camera in my backyard. Note to self: heed the ladder warning that says, ‘Do not sit or stand on top step.’”
The “Malcolm in the Middle” star went on to say, “In hindsight, a taller ladder would’ve been smarter. While I’m gutted to miss the races, I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. I feel for my team, who’ve poured their hearts into this season…The doctor estimates a 6-8 week recovery, so I’ll be back in the driver’s seat as soon as I’m cleared.”
Frankie Muniz, the NASCAR Driver
Muniz first dabbled in stunt car racing back in 2004. However, it wasn’t until the birth of his son in 2021 that he fully set his sights on NASCAR.
While on an episode of “DRIVE with Jim Farley,” Muniz told the Ford CEO that hours after his son Mauz was born, he seriously started to consider pursuing racing.
“I literally was holding him, my son, in the hospital bed, and I remember thinking, ‘Who is he going to grow up thinking that I am?’” Muniz said on the podcast. “Sure, I could say, ‘Here’s what Daddy used to do, Daddy used to be an actor, Daddy used to do that.’ But I wanted him to see me working really hard for something, striving for something, and all the ups and downs that come with it. And I really felt like I had unfinished business in the racing world.”
Then, in 2023, Muniz made those dreams a reality and announced he was becoming a NASCAR racer.
