Frankie Muniz could just kick back and relax now that “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” has hit Disney+ and Hulu for fans to enjoy. However, the “Dancing with the Stars” alum opted to do something very different.
Indulging in the other passion that puts him in the spotlight, the actor — who’s also a racecar driver — hit the track. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a smooth ride. In fact, the star ended up crashing his show-branded truck.
Although Muniz seemed excited about the race in an interview he did before getting behind the wheel, things took a turn after the race started. Indeed, just “[h]ours after Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair debuted on Hulu, Frankie Muniz walked away from a crash at his other job,” Deadline reported.
Muniz Collided with Another Truck and ‘Both Ended Up Junked’
“On Friday, the actor and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer was involved in [a] wreck with Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill on the Bristol Motor Speedway, damaging his Malcolm in the Middle themed Ford F-150 and taking him out of the race,” Deadline notes.
Beyond that, Athlon Sports explains that the star “was fighting for the Lucky Dog position, trying to get back on the lead lap. As Tyler Reif was going to lap him, the two collided and both ended up junked.”
“I actually thought we were running pretty good,” Muniz told Fox Sports (via Deadline). “I felt pretty quick. We were in the lucky dog position, so I was just trying to do some good lap times. I think there was like 10 to go on the stage.”
Following the accident, Reif was “yelling at me in there saying I’m a lapper, like I shouldn’t be racing. I’m in the lucky dog position,” Muniz said, per Deadline.
“I’m fighting,” he continued. “I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do. And I’m not going to back down on that. I haven’t seen a replay, but based on what I felt, I went to the middle of track. I didn’t track all the way out to show that I was going to go back to the bottom.”
Muniz May Take on Both Acting and Racing in the Future
GettyAfter finding fame as a child actor, Muniz took a break from Hollywood to try his hand at racing in 2008. He told Deadline, “Obviously right now, I’m pursuing racing full-time, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that when I dive into something, I go 100%.”
“I don’t have hobbies, I wanna be the best race car driver I can be,” he continued. “I have an opportunity in front of me, and I wanna try to go out and win all the races and make Ford and all my sponsors super proud, and myself proud.
At the same time, he noted, “But definitely, if had an opportunity to go back into the acting world, I wouldn’t hesitate. I would love to be there.”
