Frankie Muniz Dishes on His Comeback & ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Details

“Malcolm in the Middle” initially ran from 2000 until 2006 on Fox, and many fans have been clamoring for a reboot. It starred Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Erik Per Sullivan, Justin Berfield, and Christopher Masterson. Now, a revival series is coming to Disney+, aptly titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.” Recently, former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Muniz opened up about his return to acting.

Muniz was recently on the Lightweights podcast with Joe Vulpis. During the episode, the actor-turned-race car driver was asked if doing the “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot had reignited his love for acting. Muniz said, “It did.”

He continued, “My focus right now is trying to be the best racecar driver I can be.” Muniz went on, “So I’m not pursuing being an actor, if that makes sense.” He was then asked if he would return if the perfect role were to come along.

Muniz responded, “I would 100 percent do it. I think I would love it. He continued on by saying he wouldn’t want a role that would take him completely away from racecar driving. Specifically, he wants the chance to do another series.

Muniz Detailed the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reboot

While on the “Lightweights” podcast, Muniz also went into detail about his experience filming the new version of the sitcom. In discussing what fans can expect, he said, “I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story.”

Muniz continued, “It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with.” Regarding his experience on set, the actor admitted, “I’m not exaggerating when I say filming this reboot, like I loved it so much, way more than I ever thought I could have.”

He added, “We ended in May, and I haven’t talked to anybody since, you know what I mean? I’ve been gone. I’ve only been home, I think, for 12 days since the beginning of the year. I’m just always crazy, and I think next week, I’m going to have time. I’m going to reach out [to the rest of the cast].”

The New Show Premieres this Year

Fans of “Malcolm in the Middle” don’t have long to wait for the reboot. The show is set to premiere in December on Disney+. According to TVLine, the series will consist of four 30-minute episodes. It will feature Malcolm visiting his parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. Notably, all the prominent cast members are expected to return, except for Sullivan, who played Dewey.
