As a performer in Los Angeles, “Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough has made innumerable connections. His 2023 wedding featured many big-name guests, including musician Andy Grammer.
In a recent social media post, Grammer fondly recalled performing a song he wrote for Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert‘s special day.

Many wedding guests agonize over what to gift the newlyweds. But for pop singer Andy Grammer, the decision was easy. He and his wife, Aijia, serenaded Derek and Hayley Hough with an original song.
“This was at Derek and Hayley’s wedding 🤍” Grammer shared in a sweet Instagram post. “We were taping the podcast the other day, talking about love, and what it really means to show up for your people…and somehow we kept coming back to this moment. Friendships like this are everything! My episode with Derek is out now, love you man.”
“Hello everyone,” the singer begins the video, standing next to Aijia on stage. “My name’s Andy, it is lovely to be here. We wrote a song for them and we’re gonna try it right now. We wrote it yesterday, we have the lyrics here. This is like what you don’t do, but we’re gonna do it.”
Grammer went on to express his admiration for Derek and Hayley, adding that they were “sincere and successful,” but also genuinely “deep-hearted.” He said he immediately knew he wanted to write a song for their wedding day.
“Marriage is a dance,” the singer continued, adding that he and Aijia had been married for 11 years at the time of recording. “So we wrote you a song about a dance that will last forever.”
The pair begins to perform, quickly captivating the entire crowd.

“Gahhh I love how you love your people 🙌” one fan added.
Andy Grammer Featured the DWTS Judge on His Podcast
In addition to being a successful musician, Andy Grammer also hosts a podcast, “Showing Up with Andy Grammer.” He recently invited his friend Derek Hough on the show for an interview.
“In a world where ‘yeah’ often means ‘no,’ meeting someone who truly shows up is incredibly rare,” Grammer captioned an Instagram post, teasing the interview with Derek Hough. “It’s about commitment, inspiration, and genuine connection. What does it mean to be someone who always follows through? That’s the question.”
“I was actually in a dance studio and I ran into Charli D’Amelio who is, obviously we know who she is, she’s such an amazing influence. But she’s also, she’s a dancer. She loves to dance and she wants to dance more,” Derek recalled about meeting the TikTok star.
The DWTS judge went onto describe how he invited Charli to a dance convention and she eagerly agreed to attend. Derek and Andy agreed that many people in Los Angeles seem excited about an opportunity but don’t follow through. That wasn’t true about Charli D’Amelio.
“Two days later, she shows up, she’s there, front row, at Ovation. And I was like, ‘Whoa, hold up. That’s different, that’s unique,'” Derek recalled, describing his admiration for the young influencer. Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas went on to win “Dancing With the Stars” season 31 together.
Fans can tune into “Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro” on Monday, July 13. DWTS season 35 will premiere shortly after in the fall.
