Former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Bindi Irwin is opening up about one of the greatest joys of her life, and it has nothing to do with trophies. It is about turtles, tiny hands and passing on a family legacy.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shared Feb. 26, the 27-year-old conservationist reflected on how meaningful it has been to involve her 4-year-old daughter, Grace Warrior, in her work at Australia Zoo. Alongside a carousel of photos featuring Irwin, husband Chandler Powell and Grace by the ocean, she shared a deeply personal caption about the experience.
“One of the best parts of my entire existence is getting to share our conservation work with Grace,” Irwin wrote. “She is such a kind and beautiful soul who feels everything with her whole heart. Especially when it comes to wildlife care.”
A Second Chance for Two Sea Turtles
According to the post, Irwin explained that a green sea turtle and a hawksbill turtle were recently brought to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for life-saving treatment. Thanks to the hospital team’s care and dedication, both turtles made a full recovery and were cleared for release back into the wild.
Irwin said she and Powell asked Grace if she wanted to help release the turtles into the ocean, and her excitement was “out of this world.” The photos show the family sitting near the shoreline under clear blue skies as the turtles began their return to the sea.
“In all the photos it looks like we’re sitting next to a green screen because it was such a perfect day,” Irwin wrote, describing calm waters and peaceful surroundings. She added that the moment served as a reminder of why her family has dedicated their lives to protecting wildlife and wild places. “It is the honour of a lifetime to get to be part of something so much bigger than yourself.”
Her mother, Terri Irwin, echoed that sentiment in the comments, praising Bindi and Powell and expressing confidence that the future of conservation is “in the best hands with Grace.”
Grace the ‘Wildlife Warrior’
This is not the first time Grace’s love of animals has taken center stage. Earlier this month, Terri shared a photo of her granddaughter holding the reins of a brown-and-white horse at Australia Zoo, joking that Grace knows how to celebrate the Year of the Horse, per SheKnows. Fans quickly dubbed her a “cutest little cowgirl.”
Terri also posted another sweet moment of Grace interacting with a kangaroo joey, further highlighting her growing bond with wildlife.
Bindi previously said in a 2024 interview that Grace is “100 percent a Wildlife Warrior,” explaining that her daughter loves sharing animal facts and proudly declaring them as truths, per SheKnows.
For Irwin, these small but powerful moments are what matter most. “It’s moments like these that remind me exactly why we do what we do,” she wrote. “We have dedicated our entire lives to the protection of wildlife and wild places.”
