“Dancing with the Stars” fan favorite Derek Hough travels a lot for work, and on Sunday, March 29, he opened up about what happened during his recent 14-hour flight. In a video on Instagram, the former pro-turned judge tells fans that he just got off a flight and “there was a guy who was laughing so unbelievably loud.” What follows is how he chose to handle the situation.
Derek Hough Shares His Recent Experience
Hough gave an example of the man laughing and informed fans that his reenactment was not an exaggeration, adding that the laughing continued for “four hours straight.”
“He woke everyone up. It was dark, everyone was sleeping … it’s a 14-hour flight,” Hough said. “Nothing is that funny. Nothing.” Hough revealed that the man “kinda annoyed” him at first because he woke him up during a long flight, but then he just started laughing with him. “It started to make me laugh,” he shared. “Afterwards, I saw him, and I said, ‘Hey man, what were you watching?’” The man responded by informing Hough that it was a “funny show” without naming it, and he remains curious.
But the best part of the video is that Hough wanted to remind fans that while you “can’t control the things around you, you could choose to be annoyed by it or just laugh along.” And this approach is incredibly powerful. In the caption, he wrote, “Might as well join ’em,” before encouraging fans to share their own stories.
Fans Praise Derek Hough for His Kind Approach
Hough could have got up and asked the man to be quiet. He could have got a flight attendant involved, and he could have let this man’s laughing impact his mood. However, instead of focusing on the negatives, he chose to focus on the positives. He chose to laugh. Fans have applauded Hough for this decision.
“Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s amazing how moments like that can be both annoying and amusing at the same time,” a fan wrote. “I love how you found humor in a challenging situation, it’s exemplary for all of us. It’s a reminder that sometimes laughter is the best remedy, even in the middle of a long grueling flight. It truly shows your ability to see the lighter side of things!”
“This is why I like you, Derek, you always seem to be positive and good-hearted. We need more people who will be kind like you,” another person wrote.
The post is only a few minutes old, but it has already attracted a lot of attention. Reactions include, “What if he was experimenting to see if others would laugh too or choose to be angry?,” “BUT WHAT SHOW,” and “So true, we can’t control everything but we can control our reactions to things – changes everything.”
