People shared the announcement of Keaton’s passing on Instagram on Saturday, October 11. The publication posted a photo of Keaton, along with her birth and death years: 1946-2025. In the caption, they confirmed her death. “PEOPLE can confirm the legendary actress died in California,” the caption reads. “Further details are not available at this time, and her loved ones have asked for privacy, according to a family spokesperson.”
The comment section has been flooded with messages from fans and celebrities. “Heartbreaking,” Hough wrote, along with a broken heart emoji. “That feels so unexpected.” His comment has been liked over 3,000 times from fans who have shown their support. There have also been reactions to Hough’s words. “Exactly what I thought, shocked and so saddened,” a fan shared in agreement. “Right! I felt something so sad hit when I saw it, couldn’t believe it was real,” another person wrote.

Keaton had an incredible career, including delivering a memorable performance in “Annie Hall,” for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1977. She also starred in “The First Wives Club,” “Book Club,” and “The Family Stone.”
Keaton is survived by her two children, a daughter, Dexter, and a son, Duke. She adopted her children in 1996 and 2001, respectively. Despite Keaton choosing to live in the limelight, her children wanted a very different life, staying out of the public eye and choosing not to follow in her footsteps.
