Since joining “Dancing With the Stars” as a pro, Ezra Sosa has skyrocketed in popularity. After a rough first season with Anna Delvey, the 25-year-old made it to the finale with gymnast Jordan Chiles the following season.
As Ezra continues on the “DWTS” Live tour, he’s already thinking ahead to season 35. In a new interview, he advocated for more same-sex pairings on the show and revealed his dream celebrity partner.
Ezra Sosa Shares His Desire to Shakeup the Dance World
Throughout its 20-year history on ABC, “Dancing With the Stars” has traditionally featured male-female partnerships. JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson changed the game in season 30 when they competed for the Mirrorball trophy together, finishing in second place.
A year later, drag performer Shangela competed with Gleb Savchenko. Although Shangela lives as a man in her personal life, she competed as a woman throughout the season. To date, “DWTS” still has not featured two men competing together.
Ezra Sosa would love to change that.
“If DWTS did two male partners… who’s your dream pairing?? 👀” season 29 champion Kaitlyn Bristowe captioned a new Instagram post. “Ezra Sosa has thoughts — now we need yours!!”
“Who would be your dream guest if they did have two male partners?” Kaitlyn asks the dancer in a screenshot from her podcast episode.
“I think it would be someone from ‘Heated Rivalry,‘” Ezra shares. “Either of them!”
In the attached video, Ezra discussed how pivotal JoJo Siwa’s season was to “Dancing With the Stars.” Although she and Jenna Johnson didn’t win, they broke down barriers for the future of same-sex pairings on the show.
“Watching JoJo’s season was so refreshing because it was something different. Also Jenna was such a perfect pro for that,” the professional dancer shared. “But just seeing them switch up the connections and the framing, I think even choreographically, is just so interesting to me. When you’re allowed to switch roles, oh my gosh, you can do so much more with it.”
The Pro Dancer Received a Tremendous Honor Recently
As Ezra Sosa focuses on dance, others have noticed his activism. The 25-year-old recently received a Queerty for “Reality Television Star.”
“Being in the position that I am, it takes a lot of courage but also it takes a support system that got me to where I am today,” Ezra said in his acceptance speech. “And I know and recognize that there are so many people in the queer community who do not have that same support system that I have. This award goes out to all those people who may not have that support system. And I’m here to tell you that if you don’t feel the most comfortable in your own skin, there is a place for you out there. Thank you again.”
“Dancing With the Stars” returns to ABC this September.
