The future of a popular reality television show is in serious doubt today. The show in question? The Australian version of “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”
Based on the British TV show of the same name, it’s co-hosted by comedian, actress, and television presenter Julia Morris, and the 2025 winner of “Dancing with the Stars,” Robert Irwin.
Per IMDb, the show’s concept is as follows: “Celebrities are dropped off in Africa and have to complete a series of challenges to earn meals for the group.”
More specifically, a group of around a dozen high-profile figures from the worlds of entertainment, sport, and beyond, have to live in the remote and dense South African jungle for around three weeks. They must live on basic rations, with no modern luxuries, and compete in often disgusting challenges (such as being covered in creepy-crawlies and eating horrible things) to win stars to ensure they are fed.
The gruelling show has been running for 12 series, since the first one in 2015. However, it now finds itself at risk of being pulled.
It Could Be the End for Australia’s ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’
According to an exclusive story in TV Blackbox, Paramount — the owners of Network 10 on which “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” airs in Australia — have pulled the plug on the show, meaning it’s now looking for a new home.
The revelation raises serious doubts about its future. If another network doesn’t acquire the rights to the series, it could be forced to finish.
TV Blackbox says the news comes after Sky News reported Robert Irwin is being eyed for a presenting role on Network 10’s big rival Seven Network, while Julia Morris’ behavior is said to have become “increasingly difficult” on the “I’m a Celebrity” set.
There is, however, conflicting information circulating regarding the show’s status.
The Daily Mail reports that a spokesperson for Network 10 has told them, “Decisions regarding the 2027 program schedule including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will be made in the coming weeks.”
The Recent Series’ Ratings Weren’t Great
TV Blackbox explained that uncertainty around Australia’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” stems from the most recent series’ ratings. 2026’s season 12 ran from January 18 until February 22.
The publication says that, despite a strong opening night with 925,000 viewers nationally, season 12’s ratings quickly fell due to format changes. Crucially, said changes included a reduced amount of audience interaction regarding evictions and challenges.
They add that the series finale only managed to draw 571,000 viewers. That was down from 651,000 from the 2025 climax.
Season 12 was won by radio presenter and comedian Concetta Caristo. Caristo was joined in the series finale by actor Gary Sweet and former professional rugby league player Luke Bateman. Sweet and Bateman consequently finished as the 2026 runners-up.
The other contestants in the series were comedian Nath Valvo, actress Rebekah Elmaloglou, “Married at First Sight” participant Cyrell Paule, chef George Calombaris, internet personality Mia Fevola, former Australian rules football player Dyson Heppell, actor Barry Williams, “Love Island” star Matt Zukowski, model Rachel Hunter, and singer Deni Hines.
We hope the people behind Australia’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” come to a happy resolution about it soon.
