‘Love Island’ Star Reveals Refreshing Diagnosis

“Love Island UK” star Dr. Alex George is opening up about a deeply personal milestone, sharing that he was recently diagnosed with autism — a revelation he says has brought both clarity and relief.

The reality star, 34, shared the news with followers in an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, Feb. 3, explaining that the diagnosis followed an extensive assessment process and has given him new insight into his life experiences.

“I am autistic,” George wrote in the brave social media post. “I was diagnosed recently after going through the in-depth assessment process. Sitting and reading the 300-odd-page report was the most surreal and strange experience of my life. I had to take some time to let it all sink in.”

George admitted that the realization has come with a mix of emotions as he works through what the diagnosis means for him personally.

“I can’t explain how weird it is to be able to understand what I never could see,” he continued. “I feel a little unnerved, confused and unsteady I guess. Not because I think it’s a bad thing or even a good thing, it’s just a lot, you know?”

Despite the uncertainty, George said the diagnosis has also helped him make sense of long-standing questions about his personality, relationships and experiences.

“I can finally see and begin to understand why I am the way I am. I have all the pieces of the jigsaw at last. It only took 34 years,” he wrote.

George, who is a practicing doctor, added that sharing his diagnosis publicly felt like lifting a weight he had been carrying for some time. He acknowledged that going public was intimidating but ultimately freeing.

“I am still figuring out what that means for me but right now I just wanted to let you know, I am autistic,” he said. “This is still so raw and new to me. I have a lot to process so I do need time for this to sink in fully.”

He also expressed gratitude toward the medical professionals and family members who supported him throughout the assessment process.

“I will leave you with this thought,” he wrote. “The greatest gift we can give ourselves is the gift of acceptance. And for that to happen, we need to know who we truly are.”

Fans Praise Alex George’s Transparency Amid Autism Diagnosis

George rose to public prominence in 2018 as a cast member on season 4 of the U.K. edition of “Love Island.” Since then, he has used his platform to advocate for mental health awareness and openly discuss his own health journey.

Following his announcement, the comments section of his post quickly filled with messages of support, with fans thanking him for his honesty, courage, and transparency.

The reality star later addressed the response through Instagram Stories, saying he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of encouragement.

“Completely and utterly overwhelmed (in a good way) by your response. I was really nervous and worried about sharing it and got in my own head about it,” he continued. “And you have just made me feel so much better.”
