Actor Sells ‘Varsity Blues’ Jerseys to Fund Treatment and Support Families
On Monday, the former DWTS star Van Der Beek announced that he is selling replicas of his character Jonathan “Mox” Moxon’s away-game football jersey from the hit 1999 movie “Varsity Blues,” with proceeds supporting his cancer treatment and “supporting families walking the same path.”
In a video, the 48-year-old wore the white-and-blue jersey with “Moxon” and the number 4 printed on the back. “By popular demand! My favorite jersey. Maybe it was all fun plays we got [to] run in the football sequences for the away games… but I always loved putting on the varsity whites,” he wrote.
Getty“Last year, when I released the Blues jersey, I was blown away by the love and support I received from all of you. It has meant more than I can ever express,” he continued. “I hope you enjoy this one as much as the original. For me, every jersey I sign is a magical full-circle moment.”
Van Der Beek added, “Thank you — for the love, the prayers, the support, and for making this jersey mean something far bigger than a movie. Endlessly grateful for all of you.”
The Former DWTS Star Is Also Auctioning ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Memorabilia to Pay Medical Bills
Alongside honoring his film past, the actor announced earlier this month that he will auction off memorabilia from “Dawson’s Creek” to help pay for his cancer treatment.
“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” Van Der Beek told People.
Getty“While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”
Items for sale include the necklace Dawson gifted Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) for prom, expected to sell for $26,400–$52,800, and the outfit he wore in the pilot episode, which is expected to fetch up to $4,000.
A Long Road Ahead — but a Family Standing With Him
Van Der Beek revealed his diagnosis in November 2024, sharing the news privately with loved ones before going public.
“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family. There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good,” he said at the time.
Since then, treatments, fundraising efforts and day-to-day recovery have defined the actor’s world — and Kimberly has stood steady beside him through every shift. Her rare message this week reflects not only how far he has come, but how determined their family remains to keep moving forward together.
