As James Van Der Beek continues to battle colorectal cancer, the star and his wife, Kimberly, have continued to update their fans about the family’s daily life. That includes their daughter’s 15th birthday, their son turning four and, now, a new photo showing the star himself.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, October 16, Kimberly shared a photo of James with his father (according to fans in the comments).
The former “Dawson’s Creek” actor and “Dancing with the Stars” competitor can be seen smiling at the camera as the sun shines on his face.

James Revealed He Has Cancer in 2024
GettyIt’s been almost a year since James opened up to the public about the fact that he has cancer.
“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he told People in November 2024.
He also told People, “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”
James Says He’s On a ‘Journey’
GettyAlthough James has been dealing with colorectal cancer for a while now, he’s aware of the fact that he needs to take on the battle one step at a time.
“I’m just on the journey,” he said while talking to Today in July. He also noted, “It’s a process. It’ll probably be a process for the rest of my life.”
At the time, he was still working on “Elle,” which focuses on the “Legally Blonde” character while she’s in high school.
“The greatest thing about work is cancer doesn’t exist between action and cut,” he told Today. “It was fun to drop in and just have a blast because it’s such a great cast, a great production, and everybody out there is really talented.”
