Perez Hilton’s family is providing another update as the celebrity blogger continues his recovery following a frightening incident.
Hilton’s sister, Barbara Lavandeira, spoke exclusively with Page Six on Wednesday, offering an emotional update on her brother’s condition after he was hospitalized following an alarming TikTok livestream.
Hilton Remains in the Hospital
“Mario remains hospitalized and continues to receive medical treatment for his injuries. His physical and mental recovery is going to take a lot of time, but we remain hopeful,” Barbara told the outlet in her first and only interview about the incident.
Barbara said Hilton currently has no access to a cellphone, social media, or the internet as his family and medical team focus on his recovery.
“Everyone’s focus is on helping him recover physically and making sure he receives the mental and emotional care and support he needs,” she said.
The family has chosen not to disclose specific details about Hilton’s injuries or treatment, with Barbara describing those as “private medical matters.” She did, however, confirm that the injuries included cuts.
“He did sustain cuts to his face and other areas, but it’s still far too early to know the extent of any lasting damage or scarring,” she said. “What I can say is that he has a long road ahead of him, both physically and mentally.”
Barbara also addressed whether her brother remembers what happened.
“I don’t want to speak for Mario about what he does or doesn’t remember,” she said, explaining that their “visits and conversations with him” have been limited.
“He’s with medical professionals, and right now the focus needs to remain on his treatment and recovery. There’ll be time for those conversations when his doctors believe he’s ready,” Barbara added.
Hilton’s Mom Was Awarded Temporary Custody
There is also no timeline for when Hilton, 48, might return home.
“We honestly don’t know. His physical and mental recovery is going to take time, and we’re following the guidance of his doctors,” Barbara said. “I don’t want to offer a timeline or make promises about when he might come home.”
While Hilton remains hospitalized, his family is also focused on caring for his three children: Mario, Mia, and Mayte.
The children were at their father’s Miami home before the incident, and Barbara said their safety and well-being remain a major priority for the family.
“Our main priority is making sure they are safe, supported, and surrounded by people who love them. They’re trying to process something no child should ever have to experience,” she said.
Barbara explained that the children love their father and that the family hopes Hilton will eventually be healthy enough to care for them again.
“They love their father, and the goal is for Mario to get well and be able to care for his children again when he is healthy and able to do so safely,” she said.
For now, Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, is caring for the children with help from the rest of the family.
Earlier this week, Teresita was awarded temporary custody of Hilton’s three children.
Court documents showed that Hilton voluntarily consented to the temporary custody arrangement, allowing his mother to handle their care and make necessary decisions while he remains hospitalized.
