Perez Hilton’s mother has filed for temporary custody of his three children following the celebrity blogger’s recent hospitalization.
Teresita Lavandeira filed for temporary custody of Hilton’s children — Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8 — on Aug. 7, according to court documents obtained by Page Six. Hilton voluntarily consented to the arrangement.
Hilton’s Mom Now Had Temporary Custody of His Three Children
The documents state that Hilton agreed that his mother having temporary legal custody is in the best interests of the children.
“I realize that by signing this document, I am consenting to the Petitioner having temporary legal custody of the minor children and that such temporary custody is in the best interest of the children,” the documents read.
Under the temporary arrangement, Lavandeira can consent to necessary medical and dental care for the children, access their medical, vital and educational records, make educational decisions and handle other matters necessary for their care.
Hilton also acknowledged that the arrangement is temporary and that he can petition the court to have legal custody returned to him.
“I realize that the custody of my children by the Petitioner is temporary and that I may, at any time, petition the court to return legal custody to me,” the document states.
“I understand and acknowledge that I may have to comply with a reasonable transition plan prior to the court returning legal custody to me.”
The filing comes after Hilton was hospitalized following a livestreamed mental health crisis at his Miami home.
Authorities responded after receiving multiple calls concerning an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media. Hilton was subsequently taken to a local hospital.
Hilton’s Family Gave an Update on His Condition
His family has since provided several updates about his condition, asking the public to give Hilton and his loved ones privacy while he receives treatment.
In a statement published on PerezHilton.com on Aug. 8, his family said Hilton remained hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act and described his condition as “serious but stable.”
The family also said Hilton had experienced significant blood loss and sustained injuries that would require surgery.
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” the statement said. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process.”
The statement noted that Hilton had been able to spend time with his mother and sister while hospitalized.
His family has also asked members of the media and public to stop gathering outside the family’s home, following relatives and photographing Hilton’s children. The family said the children are safe and being cared for by immediate family.
The temporary custody filing provides a legal arrangement for the children while Hilton continues his treatment and recovery.
