Valentin Chmerkovskiy, 39, was forced to pull out of the Dancing with the Stars Live!: 2026 Tour earlier this week when he was struck with a vertigo spell.
After being admitted to the hospital, the dance pro shared a hopeful update about his exact diagnosis, also revealing his plans to return to the tour as his health continues to be on the mend.
Val Chmerkovskiy Diagnosed With BPPV
“What up, my beautiful people? So, I got BPPV, which isn’t too bad,” Chmerkovskiy shared in an Instagram video from Tuesday, March 3.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, BPPV stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and is “an inner ear disorder” where a person “experiences a sudden spinning sensation whenever they move their head.”
The “DWTS” pro went on to explain in his video that he’s accepted his diagnosis given the profound news that no tumor was detected in his brain.
“There’s no tumor in my brain, God forbid. And thankfully it’s not related to my neck injury. So having ruled those things out, I feel a lot better,” he shared.
“I’m back in the show tonight. Having vertigo because of the BPPV diagnosis — thankfully our PT is certified in getting those crystals back and do the Epley maneuver,” Chmerkovskiy added, referring to the 45-degree head movement used to reposition misplaced calcium crystals in the inner ear.
Chmerkovskiy ended his video by saying that he is still experiencing vertigo symptoms but will power through for his fans at the “DWTS” tour stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“I’m still a little fuzzy here and there but good enough to perform, and I’ll see you all tonight,” he said. “Milwaukee, I love you. I’m out here! So, no worries, and yeah — we back baby; we back!”
Chmerkovskiy thanked his fans in the caption of his post, writing, “appreciate all the love and concern. ❤️.”
Val Chmerkovskiy to Return to ‘DWTS’ Live 2026 Tour
The dance pro was greeted with plenty of support from his fans in the comments, who urged him to take it easy even though he’s feeling much better.
“take it easy val (to the best of your ability on a tour) we love you so much,” wrote one.
“Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Please take care of yourself great show tonight,” added another.
“The champ is Back Amen Glad To see you Back,” said a third.
Chmerkovskiy first revealed he was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, March 1, after he became dizzy from vertigo. “I’m just spinning everywhere,” he said at the time.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, vertigo “causes dizziness and makes you feel like you’re spinning when you’re not. It most commonly occurs when there’s an issue with your inner ear. But you can also develop it if you have a condition affecting your brain, like a tumor or stroke.”
