Valentin Chmerkovskiy, 39, was forced to pull out of the Dancing with the Stars Live!: 2026 Tour earlier this week when he was struck with a vertigo spell.
After being admitted to the hospital, the dance pro shared a hopeful update about his exact diagnosis, also revealing his plans to return to the tour as his health continues to be on the mend.
Val Chmerkovskiy Diagnosed With BPPV
โWhat up, my beautiful people? So, I got BPPV, which isnโt too bad,โ Chmerkovskiy shared in an Instagram video from Tuesday, March 3.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, BPPV stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and is โan inner ear disorder” where a person “experiences a sudden spinning sensation whenever they move their head.โ
The โDWTSโ pro went on to explain in his video that heโs accepted his diagnosis given the profound news that no tumor was detected in his brain.
โThereโs no tumor in my brain, God forbid. And thankfully itโs not related to my neck injury. So having ruled those things out, I feel a lot better,โ he shared.
โIโm back in the show tonight. Having vertigo because of the BPPV diagnosis โ thankfully our PT is certified in getting those crystals back and do the Epley maneuver,โ Chmerkovskiy added, referring to the 45-degree head movement used to reposition misplaced calcium crystals in the inner ear.
Chmerkovskiy ended his video by saying that he is still experiencing vertigo symptoms but will power through for his fans at the โDWTSโ tour stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
โIโm still a little fuzzy here and there but good enough to perform, and Iโll see you all tonight,โ he said. โMilwaukee, I love you. Iโm out here! So, no worries, and yeah โ we back baby; we back!โ
Chmerkovskiy thanked his fans in the caption of his post, writing, โappreciate all the love and concern. โค๏ธ.โ
Val Chmerkovskiy to Return to โDWTSโ Live 2026 Tour
The dance pro was greeted with plenty of support from his fans in the comments, who urged him to take it easy even though heโs feeling much better.
โtake it easy val (to the best of your ability on a tour) we love you so much,โ wrote one.
โGlad to hear you’re feeling better. Please take care of yourself great show tonight,โ added another.
โThe champ is Back Amen Glad To see you Back,โ said a third.
Chmerkovskiy first revealed he was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, March 1, after he became dizzy from vertigo. โIโm just spinning everywhere,โ he said at the time.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, vertigo “causes dizziness and makes you feel like youโre spinning when youโre not. It most commonly occurs when thereโs an issue with your inner ear. But you can also develop it if you have a condition affecting your brain, like a tumor or stroke.โ
