Bella Hadid Opens Up About Chronic Illness & ‘Medical Anxiety’

Bella Hadid knows what it’s like to deal with a chronic illness. The model was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 when she was just 16 years old. From time to time, she opens up about what she faces, which is what she did on Friday, November 14, when she took to her Instagram Stories (via People).

In one Story, she shared a meme that read: “When your chronic illness is chronic illness-ing and someone says ‘it’s always something with you’ like… yes… one might say the illness is… chronic.”

A second Story featured a post from influencer Alexandra Wildeson about the “duality” of chronic illness. Bella added text, writing, “The medical anxiety is soooooo real.”

She added, “Thank you for putting every one of my thoughts and daily situations into one swipe. The truuuuuth! @alexandrawildeson.”


Bella Previously Shared Photos from Her Hospital Bed

Back in September 2024, Bella took to Instagram to share photos from a hospital bed, including one of her attached to an IV. According to People, she was undergoing treatment for Lyme disease.

Bella took to the caption to write, “I’m sorry I always go MIA[.] I love you guys.”

Her friends, fans and followers left comments wishing Bella well.

One person wrote, “❤️‍🩹 Hope u to get better soon.”

Another person added, “Sending you love, light and positive thoughts for healing ❤️”

“Thank you for showing the reality behind autoimmune diseases.. wishing you a speedy recovery 💜,” a third person wrote.

Someone else left a comment, saying, “I’m praying that you feel better soon, wake up feeling energized, and enjoy each day free from pain and brain fog. You’re in my thoughts, and I hope for brighter, healthier days ahead. 💚💚💚💚💚”

Her sister and fellow model, Gigi Hadid, wrote, “I love you! I hope [you] feel as strong and good as u deserve, soon!!!!!!”


Bella’s Mom Also Wrote About Her Daughter’s Health Struggles

It was also in September 2024 that Bella’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, used Instagram to share her own thoughts on Bella’s health.

“As you will understand, watching my Bella struggle in silence has cut the deepest core of hopelessness inside me,” Yolanda wrote in her post’s caption. “The invisible disability of chronic neurological Lyme disease is hard to explain or understand for anyone.”

She went on to write, “To my beautiful Bellita: You are relentless and courageous. No child is suppose[d] to suffer in their body with an incurable chronic disease. I admire your bravery and your willingness to keep fighting for health despite the failing protocols and countless setbacks you have faced.”

She also wrote, “I am so proud of the fighter that you are. You are not alone, I promise to have your back every step of the way, no matter how long this takes.”
