Katie Couric brought some serious glamour to the Waldorf Astoria on Saturday, stepping out in a sparkling Naeem Khan gown for the wedding of her stepdaughter, Allie Molner.
The longtime journalist and morning-television icon turned heads May 9 at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, where she beamed as the proud stepmother of the bride as stepdaughter Allie Molner, 28, married Dylan Orenstein. Couric wore a floor-length, sparkling black halter gown made by designer Naeem Khan, accented with white floral detailing at the waist. She finished the look off with dangling earrings. It was a bit of a departure from her signature polished daytime looks.
“Thank you @naeemkhannyc for my beautiful dress!” Couric wrote on her Instagram Stories, (h/t People magazine), sharing snapshots from the celebration, which continued with a reception at The Pool. Couric’s husband John Molner — Allie’s father — joined her in a joint post celebrating the newlyweds. Allie’s brother, Henry, officiated.

For Couric, the day was a special one for myriad reasons. She told People she has reached a stage of life where she deeply cherishes milestones like weddings, births and graduations, and is grateful to see her loved ones are thriving.
Born Jan. 7, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia, Couric broke into news in the 1980s before landing the role that made her a household name: co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” from 1991 to 2006. The 15-year run helped define modern morning television, and her blend of warmth, wit and pointed questioning made her a household name.
In 2006, she made history as the first woman to solo-anchor a weekday network evening newscast, taking the helm of the “CBS Evening News” until 2011. Her 2008 interview with then-vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin earned a Walter Cronkite Award and became one of the most-replayed campaign moments of the cycle.
In the years since, Couric has reinvented herself as a multimedia entrepreneur, launching Katie Couric Media, hosting popular podcasts and producing documentaries including “Under the Gun” and “Fed Up.” In 2021, she published her bestselling memoir, “Going There,” and she has continued to use her platform to champion cancer screening, a cause that’s close to her heart.
Couric Met Current Husband John Molner in 2012
Couric married attorney and NBC legal analyst Jay Monahan in 1989. The couple welcomed daughters Ellie, now 34, and Carrie, 30, before Monahan died of colon cancer in 1998 at age 42. Couric channeled her grief into advocacy, famously undergoing a televised colonoscopy in 2000. She has also spoken publicly about her own 2022 breast cancer diagnosis, urging women not to skip mammograms.
She and financier John Molner were introduced by mutual friends in 2012 and married in an intimate backyard ceremony at their East Hampton home in 2014. Their blended family includes Molner’s two children, Allie and Henry, 31. Couric’s eldest daughter Ellie welcomed son Jay in 2024 and is expecting her second child in June, soon making Couric a grandmother of two.
Between her growing family and a steady stream of new ventures, Couric continues to write one of the most enduring second acts in American media — and she’s looking pretty fabulous while doing it.
