Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals The Trends That Should Stay in The ’90s

Sarah Michelle Gellar is a ’90s style icon, thanks to her starring roles in “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and films like “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

But there’s some fashion trends she believes are best left in the past.

Gellar gave her opinion on ’90s fashion trends at the world premiere of “Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come.”

When People asked what she thought of the resurgence of ’90s trends, she answered, “Well, honestly, it’s fashion and it’s all back right now.”

She referenced FX’s hit series “Love Story,” which has put Carolyn Bessette Kennedy‘s minimalist ’90s style back into the spotlight.

“So thank goodness I saved my Calvin Klein slip dresses,” Gellar quipped. “Thank goodness.”

However, there are some trends she believes should stay in the ’90s.

“I have two trends I never want to come back, though,” she revealed.

“The eyebrows, the thin eyebrows, and chokers because they just cut your… no one should have no neck.”

“The one that’s coming back that I don’t totally get is the chokers, because I feel like chokers cut your neck off,” she told People in a 2025 interview.

“That’s the one that I’m not totally behind. I just don’t feel like it’s as elongating as everyone thinks, that’s just my opinion.”

In the interview, Gellar reminisced on some of her favorite trends from the decade.

“I like that the T-shirts and the slip dresses came back because to me, a slip dress is always the easiest thing to wear,” she said.

Gellar’s daughter is reportedly also a fan of the ’90s style.

“My daughter will be like, ‘Oh, you’re not wearing it right.’ I’m like, ‘Oh no, I know how to wear it in the ’90s,'” Gellar said.

“We were having this discussion the other day about scrunch socks, and I was like, ‘Trust me. I wore scrunch socks with my skirts the first time it came around.'”

And as for Gellar’s own ’90s fashion heroes?

“Carolyn Bessette was such a style icon,” she previously told The New Yorker.

“There was a scene [in ‘Love Story’] and she had the black slip dress on with the sweater tied around her waist, and I was like, ‘I used to wear that.'”
