Rumors swirled that Kim Kardashian was to be the lucky new owner of an iconic Carolyn Bessette Kennedy piece, Page Six reports.
The classic Prada coat was up for auction earlier this month, amongst speculation Kardashian would be the buyer.
Who Got The Carolyn Bessette Kennedy Coat?
This time, Kardashian was not the eventual owner of this piece of Kennedy style history.
The coat was purchased by a museum, revealed Lucy Bishop of The Fashion Auctioneer.
Bishop, who handled the auction, did not disclose which museum had managed to get their hands on the piece.
“It really was a mix between fans and fashion-loving women, but also really serious private collectors, museums and institutions,” Bishop said of the sale.
The auction broke records for a piece of Kennedy’s clothing, fetching an astonishing $192,000.
It was one of Kennedy’s most photographed pieces, captured on film while walking Friday, the dog she owned with husband John F. Kennedy, Jr.
Kennedy gave the coat to JFK Jr.’s longtime assistant, RoseMario Terenzio, who later passed it on to her friend Michele Ammon.
Ammon also donated a Prada coat and Yohji Yamamoto dress to the auction, which fetched $9000 and $20,000 respectively.
Although Kennedy had an enviable wardrobe, only seven pieces have made it to auction. Page Six suggests the rest of her classic items remain with her sister, Lisa Bessette, but she has never spoken of her inheritance.

The series, which stars Sarah Pidgeon as Kennedy, has become FX’s most watched limited series ever, The Guardian reported.
Creative director Sunita Kumar Nair, author of ‘CBK: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy: A Life In Style,’ told The Guardian, “I think she just knew who she was and dressed the way that she felt represented her.”
Bishop told Page Six that women were still “fascinated” by Kennedy, and “still adore her.”
“I would love for there to be an exhibition on Carolyn Bessette Kennedy hosted by a major museum,” she said.
“I think that would be fantastic.”
Kim’s Love Affair With Kennedy Style

In 2017, she paid $379,500 for a watch previously owned by Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Page Six reported.
Kardashian also famously donned a dress once wore by Marilyn Monroe to the 2022 Met Gala. Monroe had originally wore the dress while singing ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ to President John F. Kennedy.
