Patrick Dempsey Has ‘Accepted’ Aging as He Celebrates Turning 60: ‘I Just Need to Enjoy Life’

Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey is embracing aging after celebrating his 60th birthday on set in Toronto.

Patrick Dempsey Embraces Aging

Dempsey—who stars in the new Fox thriller, “Memory of A Killer”—sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on Wednesday, January 28, to spill details on his big birthday.

“You look amazing!” the “Live With Kelly & Mark” hosts praised.

“I found 50 to be a much harder number than 60. I think I’ve accepted that I’m on the other side of the mountain,” Dempsey explained. “I just need to enjoy life, be grateful for everything that I have, and I think I’m a little calmer. And, I have to say, much more active.”

The actor, who turned 60 on January 13, revealed he was on set in Toronto filming his new show on his big day.

“My wife surprised me the night before,” he revealed. “She was flying back from Los Angeles, and I was like, ‘She should have landed by now. Why didn’t she call me? What’s going on?’ So I texted her, and the minute I pushed send, [there was] a knock on the door.”

Dempsey’s wife, Jillian Fink, showed up at his door in Toronto to spend his special day with her husband.

“So that was the best gift ever,” he gushed.

Patrick Dempsey Is an Empty Nester

In addition to turning the big 6-0, Dempsey and Fink are also navigating this new chapter of life as empty nesters.

Their three children, daughter Talula, 23, and twin sons Darby and Sullivan, 18, have moved out of their parents’ house.

Talula is working as a pastry chef, the proud dad revealed.

“It’s a dangerous job for me, because you want to taste everything,” he told Ripa and Consuelos. “There’s always something going—she’s cooking constantly.

The “Enchanted” actor explained that being an empty nester is “a little scary” and “a little sad.”

“But I find that, it’s harder now as a parent the older they get, because you have to back off and let them live their life,” he added. “But at the same time, you’re coming together—like at Christmas we came together for the first time, we had been away—and their perspective on the world, their feedback, and their conversations are so much richer and deeper. You’re really proud of who you are and who they’re emerging as human beings. As long as they’re calm and polite, that’s a win as a parent.”
