Hallmark’s “Twelve Dates ’Til Christmas” has mixed romance with family drama all season, and the final episodes bring everything to a head. As the six-episode series wraps up, Kate Tucker (Mae Whitman) has to face long-standing family issues and make a major decision about her love life. Caught between feelings for a longtime friend and a new relationship, the holiday story ends with some of its most honest moments.
‘Twelve Dates ’Til Christmas’ Episode 4 Ending Sets Up the Finale
Much of the emotional groundwork for the “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas” finale is laid in episode 4, titled “‘Tis the Season for Mama Drama.” The episode opens with a flashback showing a teenage Kate devastated when her mother, Delilah (Mary McDonnell), decides to extend a Bahamas trip rather than come home for Christmas.
In the present, Delilah’s unexpected return to Blexford reopens those wounds. Kate avoids her mother while juggling dates arranged through the festive matchmaking service, but tensions rise as Delilah inserts herself into Kate’s life. She opens Kate’s mail, references seeing her kiss Richard (Toby Sandeman), and joins family traditions uninvited.
Kate’s frustration spills over during a rage-room date and into her work, where her designs take on an aggressive edge. A father-daughter Christmas tea with Mac (Nathaniel Parker) becomes especially painful when Delilah joins without being asked. Kate delivers pointed remarks about managing fine without her mother, leaving Delilah visibly hurt.
The episode ends with a major romantic cliffhanger. During a café date meant to help Callum (Julian Morris) find a match, Kate unintentionally lists everything she loves about him. Callum interrupts, asking when their past connection became a joke. A flashback reveals he once confessed his love after his mother’s memorial, only for Kate to flee in panic.
In the present, Callum takes Kate’s hand and kisses her slowly, saying it proves his feelings were never a joke. He then walks away, leaving Kate stunned as her phone rings with a call from Richard.
The Finale Focuses on Love, Forgiveness, and Choice
The final two episodes, “‘Tis the Season for Do-Overs” and “‘Tis the Season for Taking Chances,” bring Kate’s journey full circle. As the twelfth date approaches, Kate finally begins to understand how her unresolved anger toward Delilah shaped her dating patterns.
In a key moment, Kate turns to Delilah for advice on love and forgiveness.
The conversation changes their dynamic, with Delilah owning her past choices and Kate opening up about her fear of being left behind.
At the same time, Kate faces a tough romantic choice between Richard, who offers something new and steady, and Callum, whose feelings have been there all along. When she thinks she’s made up her mind, new information comes to light that forces her to reconsider what she really wants.
“Twelve Dates ’Til Christmas,” created by Erin Rodman and adapted from Jenny Bayliss’s novel, premiered Dec. 5, 2025, on the Hallmark Channel.
