Live Recap of ‘A Melbourne Match’ Premiere
Catch up on our live updates from “A Melbourne Match” when it premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, January 10, 2026:
The film starts off in bustling New York City. Georgie, our main character, is narrating over shots of the city, describing what she loves about it. “Maybe it just has to be experienced,” she explains to viewers. Her job is to make people’s experience in a new city perfect, giving people something to look forward to. She claims time is valuable, and no one has enough time.
Georgie arrives at her job. She’s a 24-hour travel journalist. When she sits down at her desk, her assistant, Eric, says that Georgie missed Morris’ speech during his party celebrating his work anniversary. Morris is her boss, who’s retiring soon.
When Morris comes over to them, he tells Georgie that she has to take the time to actually enjoy her experiences while working. Then he gives her her next assignment: she’s going to Melbourne, Australia! His only caveat is that he wants her to finally immerse herself in the culture and the people and really find out what makes the city tick.
Georgie rushes to her sister Emma’s apartment after work. Georgie is staying the night there since Emma’s apartment is even closer to the airport than her own, so being there would save her time.
On Georgie’s way out, Emma says to her, “you might meet a cute Aussie surfer!” But Georgie continues to remind her that she wouldn’t have time for romance.
When she touches down in Melbourne, Georgie appears disheveled and totally exhausted. She looks around for her driver, but no one is holding a sign with her name. They’re late. She checks her watch, again. While waiting for her driver, Georgie buys herself a hat from a store in the airport. She obsessively continues to check her watch as she grabs a quick snack instead of a real meal.
Georgie eventually calls Eric to tell him that her ride still isn’t there, so Eric makes it his mission to find her another driver as soon as possible. But just as Georgie is walking out of the airport and into the road, an Australian native almost runs her over, but he stops just in time. This is Zach, who tells her he’s running late to pick someone up. They argue before he rushes into the airport. Unable to find his passenger, Zach looks back out the window to see Georgie sitting alone on her suitcase, still waiting by the road. It turns out, Zach is her driver!
“No,” Georgie says immediately, who insists this must be a mistake. But Zach tells her that her driver was originally supposed to be his dad, who runs the company, but he hurt his back. And Zach was late to pick her up because he was installing dry-wall across town when his dad called and asked him to take the job instead.
Georgie, forgetting that Australians drive on the opposite side of the road, accidentally tries to get into the driver’s seat of Zach’s car, creating a hilarious mixup between them. When they’re both in the car, Georgie is ready to go. She marked all the best cafes on her schedule, but instead, Zach tells her he’ll find her the right place. Already shaking up her usual routine.
There are beautiful shots of the landscape and the city as this scene transitions to the next, where Zach takes Georgie to one of his favorite places to get coffee. Georgie doesn’t know what to order when she gets there, so the barista gives her a couple of coffees to try, which she downs immediately. By the time Zach joins her in the cafe, she’s already all hopped up.
Next, Zach wants to take Georgie to see some local street art instead of the places she had on her itinerary.
As they walk around looking at the art painted on the walls, Georgie takes photos and makes notes. When Zach tells Georgie that his dad will be driving her tomorrow instead of himself, she’s clearly disappointed. She likes that he took her to a local place, one that’s unique. She proposes he stay on as her local guide. Zach gets shy, telling her that he just builds houses, but Georgie wants him to show her the real Melbourne, a side only a local will know about. She wants to prove she can look beyond the same old attractions. Though she says it’s about wanting to impress her boss, it’s obvious she needs this for herself. Zach eventually agrees.
“Welcome to Melbourne,” Zach outstretches his hands, causing Georgie to smile, really smile for the first time.
Georgie calls her sister, not realizing the time difference. Despite it being the middle of the night for her, Em still takes the time to be worried about Georgie, wanting to make sure she’s eating and sleeping properly. Georgie lets it slip that Zach can show her places to eat, which piques Em’s interest. But before Georgie can give her the full recap of the day, she falls asleep while still on the phone.
The next day, Georgie excitedly skips out of her hotel to find Zach standing out front, dressed up and in front of his freshly washed car. He insists she eats more than just the donut she grabbed on her way out, so he takes her to get some real breakfast.
As they’re sitting at the table, Zach notices that Georgie is getting stressed about how long the food is taking to come out, even though they only just sat down. When they do get their food, Zach has Georgie try Vegemite, a spread he put on toast, which makes her gag, leading to another adorable and funny scene between the two.
Someone at the restaurant rushes up to Zach and asks to take a photo with him, which confuses Georgie. “What was that? Are you some kind of celebrity?” she asks him.
“I don’t know what that was,” Zach claims, though it seems like he’s hiding something.
As they continue through the city, Zach tells Georgie that she needs to forget her schedule. He points out the fact that she’s always looking at her watch. She doesn’t think this is a problem, she thinks she’s being efficient. But Zach is making her slow down and enjoy, just as her boss wanted her to.
Georgie describes Australia in her voiceover as a place for people to go if they want to step back in time, but also into the future. Georgie, still jetlagged from her travels, keeps falling asleep during her adventures with Zach, but they keep going anyway.
Zach takes Georgie on a bike ride, then afterwards, they get ice cream together. They have a sweet conversation that stops only when Georgie goes to take photos of the city skyline. While she’s doing this, she notices that there’s two girls taking photos of them on the street below. Zach dodges her questioning about this.
Georgie tells Zach he’s doing “exceedingly well” as her tour guide, surprised about how much they’ve checked off already. She tells him the city isn’t what she expected, as she was expecting Outback Steakhouse and giant spiders. Zach opens up that he grew up in a small town off on the coast. He also starts calling her by the nickname he gave her, “Georgie girl.” He expresses that she should visit where he grew up if she has time.
Zach then whisks Georgie away to see a koala, with the help of one of his high school friends who sets up their visit at one of the sanctuaries after hours. Georgie revels in the experience, calling it “the most Australian thing ever.”
Zach says Georgie reminds him of the “girl from that song,” referring to the lyrics in a song by an older Melbourne band, which is where he got her nickname “Georgie girl” from.
After their visit to the sanctuary, Zach tells Georgie he’s going to take her somewhere for dinner, but he won’t reveal where. He also tells her he needs to pick something up on the way, something very important, but she can’t know what it is yet.
Cut to, Georgie and Zach lounging on the beach with his dog, Snoopy. “Best restaurant in town!” Zach says.
Snoopy runs away, and Georgie goes after him. Something catches her eye inside one of the beach boxes: it’s a poster of Zach! This shows that he was actually a famous football player. When Georgie questions him about this, Zach tells her that he didn’t want to mention it before now because he finds it easier not to talk about. Since it’s been such a big part of his life for so long, it’s become his identity. So, when he ruptured his achilles a few years back, he finds it easier not to mention. Zach continues on about his dad, Rod, and how he to go to all of his games, but now he lives further away and only comes back into town for the occasional job.
He asks Georgie if she has any requests for sightseeing the next day, and she says she actually wants to take a trip down the coast to see where he’s from, which has him delightfully surprised. After their conversation, she snaps a photo of him to “capture the moment.”
Later, Georgie calls her sister on a video call. While on the call, Emma catches sight of Zach in the background, and she demands that Zach makes sure Georgie continues to take care of herself because she worries about her. After the call, Zach asks Georgie why she puts herself through all the stress of her job, but Georgie claims that she doesn’t really have an answer for him.
Georgie and Zach set off on their trip down the coast. She looks out the window in awe at the breathtaking view.
They stop off at another beach. Zach insists she go in the water, but Georgie is scared of the wildlife that could be in there. He playfully throws her over his shoulder and heads to the water. Though they notice storm clouds in the sky, this doesn’t stop them from playfully splashing each other with water. Though their moment is cut short when Georgie thinks she feels a shark in the water and rushes out, only to discover it was just seaweed.
After the beach, Georgie notices that her assistant left her a message, but she can’t get a signal. Zach returns from getting gas for the car and reveals that he got Georgie a gift. It’s a watch with a koala on it, reminding her not to take time too seriously.
Zach takes Georgie to get some food, getting her to try a meat pie. Just then, two young boys approach Zach to tell him that he was their favorite player. They ask if he could throw the ball around with them, and he initially says no since they don’t have time, but Georgie insists that they do. She watches Zach run around with the two boys, grinning from ear-to-ear. Finally taking in the moment.
After Zach is finished playing, he almost seems embarrassed that he’s a little rusty. But Georgie tells Zach that he doesn’t have to be the best player to make an impact on people, pointing out that those boys will probably remember this moment forever.
Later, Zach and Georgie arrive at his friends’ house: Scott and his wife, Maeve, who’s seven months pregnant. They invite them in and ask if they’ll stay since they’re barbecuing, but Zach tells them they have to get back so Georgie can finish her assignment. Maeve tells the two of them that it’s a shame they won’t be able to stay since she has a concert later that night. She’s a folk singer and has been singing since they were all kids. She also reveals that Zach used to play guitar when he was younger.
Upon finding all of this out, Georgie insists they at least stay for a few songs and drive back later that night instead of leaving so soon. But after discovering that Zach’s dad will be showing up, too, Georgie encourages Zach that they should stay the night and just drive back the next day.
Later, Zach and Scott are setting up at the venue for the concert, hanging lights. Zach asks Scott if he’s excited to be a dad. When Scott expresses his concern over not knowing what to do, Zach comforts him. This conversation leads to Zach opening up about the last time he dated someone overseas and the way it didn’t work out, which is why he’s being more cautious these days. Scott advises him not to wait, as there’s plenty of things that take time, but sometimes, things just appear in front of you, and if you wait, they could disappear.
At the same time back at the house, Georgie and Maeve are getting ready for the concert. Maeve lets Georgie borrow one of her dresses, a beautiful light blue gown. Maeve opens up to her about how it’s been tough to get to where they are on their journey to becoming parents. She always imagined she’d have a lot of kids, but it hasn’t been easy for them. Despite this, Maeve tells Georgie, tearfully, that it’s all been worth it.
“You two are really cute together,” Maeve points out to Georgie, explaining that she felt a vibe between her and Zach despite them not being a couple.
Georgie says she has no one at home waiting for her, as she’s pretty much married to her job. She barely has time to eat and sleep, let alone date! But Maeve tells her she seems pretty relaxed now, which makes Georgie realize she hasn’t even checked her phone all afternoon. “Maybe us laid back Aussies are rubbing off on you,” Maeve jokes with her.
Back to Zach at the venue, Scott is trying to get him to take a coaching job, insisting that it’s time he got back to doing what he loves, but he’s hesitant. Georgie and Maeve arrive then. Zach is speechless upon seeing Georgie in her dress. When she points out how nice the sunset is, Zach suddenly realizes something. He grabs Georgie and rushes away from the venue with her.
Surprise! Zach takes Georgie to see a group of kangaroos. While they’re watching the kangaroos from afar, he notices that Georgie has changed, that she seems more present compared to when they first met. Suddenly, when a kangaroo starts hopping towards them, Zach jumps on top of Georgie in order to protect her, leading to a tense moment between them.
Later, Maeve begins her concert after Scott introduces her on stage with a sweet message. Maeve starts to sing, and Zach is on stage right there with her, playing an acoustic guitar. “Only time will tell…” sings Maeve. Zach continues to look at Georgie as he plays, enamored by her.
Georgie goes outside and meets Rodney, Zach’s dad, who’s introduced by talking to her about astronomy. She asks how his back is, and he reports that he’s doing better. He tells her how glad he is that Zach was able to take over and drive her around when he couldn’t. Rod then opens up to Georgie about Zach, admitting that his son is a sensitive soul and the last year has been very hard on him, professionally and personally. Rod revealed that after Zach called him that day they met to tell him he picked Georgie up from the airport, Rod heard the old Zach, someone who was motivated and happy. And Rod had to meet the woman behind that difference.
When Georgie goes back inside, the venue, Maeve dedicates a song to her. While Maeve sings, Georgie and Zach dance together. When a slow song comes on, Zach pulls Georgie in closer and holds her as they sway to the music. Georgie brings up to Zach his question about why she puts herself through so much stress. She admits that she knew the answer, but she was too embarrassed to admit it. She says it’s because of fear. “Fear of being left behind.” She explains that she spent a lot of time trying to figure out what she wanted to do in her career, and she used to be completely lost. But she didn’t find her true passion until now. She loves her job, and she thinks she needs to make up for all that lost time.
Zach comforts her by relaying advice from his old coach: they all have their own path to follow. Their own story. And sometimes they get so caught up in what their timeline should be, when all they really need to do is stop and breathe and realize they’re exactly where they’re meant to be. “I think I’m exactly where I’m meant to be,” Georgie replies, looking right into Zach’s eyes.
The next day, Georgie is woken up by a phone call from Eric. He’s in shock to hear that she’s down the coast instead of in the city working on her assignment. He tells her she needs to get back to Melbourne as soon as possible because Morris got Georgie a spot on a popular Australian late-night show. Morris wants her to talk about what she learned in Melbourne, but Eric thinks this is really a test to make sure she can step into his shoes when he retires. Georgie starts to panic because she would have to talk about the article, but she hasn’t even started the article.
Now, Georgie starts yelling at Zach, taking it out on him and thinking that she made such a huge mistake “wasting” her time dancing all night instead of working. She slams the door in Zach’s face, making him upset, too.
Georgie and Zach head out together. Scott leaves him with some parting words, “don’t waste time.”
When Georgie gets back to her hotel, she rushes around to get ready, putting on her makeup while practicing what she’s going to say while on the show. She rants about this to Emma over a video call. Emma recalls a time from their childhood where they went to a water park together. And after that summer, Georgie was able to tell their entire class about this day in detail. Emma insists Georgie was born to do this, and she’s known since she gave that speech to their class.
Georgie goes down to the lobby to meet Zach. She thanks him for being there, thinking he wouldn’t show up after their argument. He’s clearly still angry with her, apologizing for taking her away from her job and agreeing to be her guide, calling the whole thing a “big mistake.”
Georgie arrives at “After Dark,” the late-night show. She stands backstage, nervously. Zach surprises her when he says he’ll wait outside instead of staying to watch. One of the staff members ushers her into the studio, telling her to keep her answers brief, as they don’t have too much time for her segment.
The host introduces Georgie and pulls her on stage. She suddenly pulls out photos of Georgie and Zach and asks what’s going on between them, throwing Georgie off. She’s so nervous she sweats off all the notes she scribbled on the palm of her hand. Though she disappoints the host by not wanting to talk about Zach, claiming he’s just her tour guide, she tries to talk about what she discovered in Melbourne, but she can’t find the words. Until she takes a breath. Then she emotionally recounts her entire journey.
“And Zach…well, Zach made it all possible,” says Georgie. She ends her speech by admitting that he helped her discover a side of herself that’s been missing for a very long time.
Realizing this, Georgie rushes off the stage in the middle of her interview. She grabs Zach, who was watching her from the audience after all, and leads him out of the studio and up the stairs until they’re standing on the rooftop. They apologize to each other, and he admits that the last week has been the furthest thing from a mistake, but he was just saying that to protect himself.
Georgie encourages him to take the coaching job, calling it his “next chapter” and insisting that he’s about to win the rest of the week.
“The only thing I want to win is you, Georgie girl,” Zach reveals. He tells her that he feels himself when he’s around her, that he can be more positive. When he’s with her, the world feels “colorful.”
The two agree that they’re exactly where they’re supposed to be before sharing a passionate kiss.
After some time has passed, the next scene finds Zach, who did, in fact, take the coaching job. After his practice, Georgie appears! She decided to stay in Melbourne with Zach, and she’s just getting back from an assignment Thailand. Maeve and Scott appear, too, now with their newborn baby girl. Even Snoopy is there.
“Where to next, Georgie?” Maeve asks.
“Only time will tell,” Georgie responds. She and Zach share a smile, surrounded by their friends, and as happy as ever!

I’m so unbelievably grateful to everyone who helped bring my script to life. Our incredible Melbourne cast and crew who poured their hearts into this. Laura Gaines and Casey Larson who believed in the project from the start. Steve Jaggi, Kylie Pascoe and Sophie Tilson for bringing it all together. Our wonderful director, Colin Budds and ridiculously talented leading man, Ryan Corr,” Jansen wrote in the caption of her post.

I Adored the movie! Loved all the scenery. Australia has always been one of my favorite places to visit knowing I’ll never get there The movie brought it to life for me. Both actor and actress were amazing together. I’m curious I checked both of their bios out and they’re both from Australia, but before I started watching this one last night, there was another one that she started in. Don’t remember the title cause it was the very end of the movie and I could swear the actor was in that one with her also, could someone verify that for me .
I loved the movie. Never been to Australia but always wanted to. Everything about this movie was awesome including the cast the shots of beautiful Melbourne. Loved the story line. I taped the movie and have watched it again. So happy to see that the animals shown were in a rescue. I look forward to more of Mallory and what she can bring to her career.
Loved this movie! The chemistry between the 2 lead actors was off the charts! The scenery was beautiful and seeing so much of Melbourne was terrific. We want more!
Wonderful story. Can you give me the name of the song playing at the end?
