The Internet Goes Wild for Shirtless Rick Springfield’s Chiseled Physique at 77

Recently, rocker Lenny Kravitz went viral when he demonstrated the fitness routine that’s given him rock-hard abs and a buff physique at age 62.

And as impressive as that is, he’s got nothing on fellow rock star Rick Springfield, who likewise boasts a chiseled physique — and is 15 years older than Kravitz.

Fans Are Impressed

During a recent performance at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium, the “General Hospital” alum stripped off his shirt. When photos of that sans-shirt performance hit the internet, jaws dropped as fans marveled at the 77-year-old singer’s fantastically fit physique.

As People reports, fans’ comments on social media captured the mood.

“77 years old and still bringing the energy like it’s 1981. 🤯” wrote one fan in a social media comment. “UNBELIEVABLE! 🎤🎶”

“He looks great for 77 😍,” added another fan, while a different comment simply observed, “Looking fabulous.”

Of course, looking so fit at age 77 doesn’t come without some serious time in the gym.

As Springfield told People in a 2025 interview, he’s committed to staying in the best shape he can for as long as he’s able.

“I exercise every day, and every time I play with my band, it is a two-hour aerobic workout,” he explained.

“On the road we’re Planet Fitness whores,” he added. “Planet Fitness is like the Holiday Inn of workout places — they’re all the same, every place you go.”

During that interview, Springfield conceded that touring these days was quite a bit less debauched than it was back when “Jessie’s Girl” was burning up the charts.

“The focus of tour used to be partying and getting laid,” he admitted. “Now it’s getting enough sleep and finding a nice restaurant.”

A Healthy Lifestyle

Hitting the gym, however, is only part of the equation.

Springfield also maintains a healthy diet when on the road, which he describes as mostly pescatarian.

“I’ll have meat now and then if I feel like feeling a little weak, but I don’t eat dairy or anything like that,” he shared. “I’m on a big anti-inflammation kick.”

He’s also cut back on imbibing, which he said had been having some hugely positive effects on his overall health.

“I was drinking quite a bit, and as you get older, it’s kind of a natural thing to drop all that [expletive],” he said.

“I’m not [in] AA — I mean, I know a lot of people it’s worked for,” he continued, clarifying that he’s not entirely on the wagon.

“I’ll have a couple of sips of vodka or something when I’m onstage,” he said, “but I don’t drink any other time.”

According to Springfield, reducing his alcohol intake has helped his struggle with depression, something he’s experienced since he was a teenager.

One thing he’s experimented with to treat depression is ketamine, although he wasn’t pleased with the results.

“I wanted to see if [ketamine would] open a few things in my brain,” he explained.

“It was a creative experiment and an experiment on depression. I did it for as long as suggested, and I wasn’t a big fan,” he revealed. “It made me feel heavy and machinelike. It didn’t change much in me — although I have been writing a lot, so you never know what kind of effect it has later on. It’s not a black-and-white kind of thing.”
