Where Was ‘Catch of the Day’ Filmed? See Cast Stories & Locations

The Hallmark Channel’s newest movie, “Catch of the Day,” premieres on Saturday, August 30, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The movie stars Emilie Ullerup, Michael Rady and Katie Lee Biegel. Read on to learn all about where the movie was filmed and see behind-the-scenes stories.

‘Catch of the Day’ Was Filmed in New York

“Catch of the Day” was filmed on location in the same region where the story takes place: Montauk, New York. Biegel, perhaps best known for her show “The Kitchen” on The Food Network, co-wrote and produced the film.

Biegel mentioned on Instagram that this location had a special place in her heart.

“The east end of Long Island is very close to my heart,” she wrote, “and I had the idea to for this story as I have watched more and more ‘mom and pop’ places move out. Catch of the Day is set in Montauk, and is a story of returning to your roots, the restaurant business, love, and discovering what you really need maybe isn’t what you thought you wanted at all.”

In an interview with Scary Mommy, Biegel said that she started to cry when she first got on set and saw Easton’s Fish Market “all put together.”

“It really took my breath away to see it all come to life,” she said. “Same thing when I got the first cut of the movie to watch. I had tears coming down my face. It was really a moment for me.”

She also posted a short on Instagram where she shared that her idea to write the movie was inspired by millennials taking over their family businesses in Montauk.

In an interview with Scary Mommy, Biegel said she was very hands-on with all the food that appeared in the movie.

“I worked with the culinary producer and food stylist to hire the right person and also then to go through the dishes,” she said. “We made the dishes in advance, took pictures, went back and forth on what exactly it should look like, and got it just right.”

In an interview with TV Fanatic, Biegel said that she’s watched Montauk changed over the last 20 years, and those changes inspired her movie.

Her role in the movie was her first acting role, she added, and Ullerup and Rady helped her feel comfortable on set.

Meet the Cast

Hallmark’s synopsis reads: “Sophie (Ullerup) is a rising culinary star on the verge of becoming executive chef at a high-end Manhattan restaurant. But when her sister Abigail calls with news that their beloved family seafood spot in Montauk is floundering, Sophie returns home to help. What was meant to be a short visit turns into a journey of rediscovery, of her roots, her passion for cooking, and a surprising second chance at love with her teenage crush, Cam (Rady), a local fisherman whose quiet strength and charm leave Sophie rethinking everything she thought she wanted.”
