Stephen Tobolowsky is still mainly recognized for playing insurance agent Ned Ryerson alongside Bill Murray in 1993’s “Groundhog Day.” However, a growing number of fans are beginning to associate him with a different Ned, thanks to his role in Hallmark’s “Haul Out the Holly” franchise.
But since his introduction, Ned’s hypersensitive and sometimes peculiar temperament has made him somewhat difficult to like. So we’re thrilled that Stephen revealed that in “Haul Out the Halloween,” Ned has a special lady in his life who loves him just as he is.
Stephen Teases a Long‑Term Relationship Hidden from Evergreen Lane
“I know in my relationship, I have something very delightful upcoming,” Stephen hinted in an interview with “Fanboy Nation.” “What’s interesting about this is, you know, it isn’t much of a spoiler, but yes, I do fall in love.”
“But the thing that’s so interesting about this show and the script is, it’s always lovely to start at the beginning of a relationship, but we don’t here,” he continued. Instead, viewers learn that Ned has been in a relationship for a while. But he and his lady love have been keeping it a secret from the folks on Evergreen Lane.
“And so, the audience gets to experience it pretty much the same way Wes [Brown] and Lacey [Chabert] experience first finding out about this,” Stephen said.
“You have new love — there’s nothing more exciting than new love,” he admitted. “And then there’s nothing more rewarding than a sustained old love. And I’m getting the hint that that’s maybe what I have. At least, that’s the hint here, at least I hope.”
“I rarely play a romantic character, so this is a real thrill for me,” he added.
Stephen Tobolowsky Envisions a ‘Cheers’-Style Holiday Sitcom
“Haul Out the Halloween” is the third film in the franchise, and the first to focus on everyone’s favorite spooky holiday. The whole gang is back: Lacey, Wes, Ellen Travolta, and Melissa Peterman. But two new additions have caused “Halloweentown” fans to shriek with glee: Kimberly J Brown and Daniel Kountz. The two actors played Marnie and Kalabar.
Not only does Stephen think that there should definitely be another film to add to the series next year, but he thinks Hallmark should seriously consider a “Haul Out the Holly” TV show.
“It’s the kind of show that would be like, a ‘Cheers’ or something like that,” the “Memento” star suggested. “Where you have this group of people and you’re taking different stories and different combinations every week, and make it into a weekly show.”
However, he recognized the difficulty with that idea, since “that’s a different schedule, that’s a whole different thing.”
“Haul Out the Halloween” airs October 11 at 8 pm ET on the Hallmark Channel.

This is pure wisdom
