Kimberly Williams-Paisley Reveals Her Favorite Diane Keaton Memories

Hallmark star Kimberly Paisley-Williams first met Diane Keaton when she was an impressionable 19-year-old. She ended up being everything she imagined she’d be. “She was just so generous and so funny and wise. Just, like, wonderful,” she said on the “Call It What It Is Podcast.”

“And especially on the second film,” she continued, referring to “Father of the Bride 2.” “I felt like we really bonded and, you know, just laughed like you and I do. Just, like, the humor clicked, and it was so fun to be on set when she was on set.”

After Diane Keaton passed away on October 11, Kimberly posted an emotional tribute to her onscreen mother. While chatting with Jessica Capshaw and Camilla Luddington on their podcast, she revealed her favorite memories of the legendary actress.

Williams-Paisley Recalls Diane Keaton’s Iconic Style Amid Their Thrifting Adventure

“One day, either right after or during ‘Father of the Bride 2,’ she said, ‘I’m going to the swap-meet this weekend, you want to go?'” Kimberly told Jessica and Camilla. “And I was like, ‘yeah,’ and I am not, I’d never been a swap-meet person, I didn’t know how to do it, and she knew, she knew that. And she showed up, and it was a hot day, and she showed up in her full Diane Keaton, you know, her suit and her hat, she might’ve even had gloves.”

The “Nashville Christmas Carol” star recalled that Diane pulled a cart out of her trunk, gave her $5, and told Kimberly to buy something. Then Diane went off with her sister to do her own shopping. Kimberly had no idea what to buy and settled on a plastic flower.

“We met back up around, like, 20 minutes later, and her cart was full of stuff,” Kimberly remembered. “She had, like, a clown painting. I just never would’ve picked out, but she found treasures. I just thought it was so fun.”

Kimberly Recalls Tiny Table, Big Tremor: Their Unforgettable Earthquake Scare

Another vivid memory Kimberly had of Diane involved an earthquake they faced together. While it wasn’t so pleasant at the time, looking back, she could see the humor of the situation.

“We were having lunch and we were sitting in a restaurant in LA, like, at this tiny little table, and an earthquake hit, and she’s like, ‘We have to get under the table!’ We got under this tiny little table,” she said, laughing.

Kimberly also recalled that she had a lot of anxiety when she was younger, especially on the first two “Father of the Bride” films. Diane listened to the “9-1-1: Nashville” star talk and helped her analyze her dreams. “Diane was like a mother figure to me who was very safe,” Kimberly admitted.
