On the surface, beloved Hallmark star Nikki DeLoach looks like she has it all — a beautiful family, a successful entertainment career, friends galore, and a radiant smile wherever she goes. All those things are true, but anyone who’s friends with or fans of DeLoach knows the actress, screenwriter, and director is not afraid to peel back the layers and bravely reveal the not-so-perfect aspects of her life, too, hoping to help others feel less alone in theirs.
That’s what DeLoach did on June 2, 2026, as she posted pics from her evening at the Gracies on May 19, where she and the cast of Hallmark’s “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas” won the Best Made for Television Movie award. DeLoach looked radiant in a royal blue sleeveless gown, but admitted that showing up on any red carpet can be a struggle given her history of disordered eating and body dysmorphia.
Nikki DeLoach Explains Why Red Carpet Events Are Especially Hard for Her
GettyIn a vulnerable and poignant Instagram post on June 2, DeLoach wrote that “red carpets are not my natural habitat,” explaining, “I have struggled with disordered eating and body dysmorphia since I was a child. It’s always been easier for me to disappear into the skin of a character than to stand in my own human skin, in front of a camera, and just be seen.”
The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) describes disordered eating as “a spectrum of problematic eating behaviors and distorted attitudes towards food, weight, shape, and appearance” that can manifest as habits that include “dieting, skipping meals, fasting, restricting food intake, eliminating specific foods or food groups, binge eating, excessive use of diuretics, laxatives, and weight loss medications, as well as the use of compensatory behaviors (purging, excessive exercising).”
Body dysmorphia, meanwhile, is a mental health disorder in which a person “can’t stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws” in their appearance, no matter how minor, according to Mayo Clinic, which notes, “you may feel so embarrassed, ashamed and anxious that you may avoid many social situations.”
“Having the courage for these moments starts with the humans around me,” DeLoach reflected in her post. “The ones who show up with their talent and their kindness and work to make me feel my best, even on the days I can’t find it for myself.”
“Because at the end of the day it’s not about how I look as much as it’s about what we accomplished together,” she affirmed. “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas. A Gracie Award. A team of people who poured everything into something meaningful and got to celebrate it together.”
DeLoach, who stars in “The Greek Aisle” premiering on June 6, then thanked her “incredible glam team” and concluded by sharing, “To anyone out there who knows what it feels like to struggle to be seen in your own skin, you are not alone. And also, what I have learned is this… when we are surrounded by the right people, they help us find the courage to step forward anyway. Sending so much love 💕”
