HGTV Stars Share Grief & Inspiration After Charlie Kirk Tragedy

Multiple HGTV stars, from Erin Napier to Heather El Moussa, have expressed grief and disbelief over the shooting that killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025.

Kirk, known for galvanizing young Republican voters, was speaking at an outdoor Utah Valley University event when he was fatally shot, per the New York Times.

In the hours after Kirk’s death, Napier was appalled by the response to a quote she shared in her Instagram Stories.

The HGTV star shared a screenshot of a post from the Blurry Creatures podcast that said, “Only the demonized celebrate death.”

On the next slide of her Stories, Napier wrote in white text on a black background, “I am revolted by some of the comments in my DMs about the last slide. Unfollow me, immediately, if you could be one of those comments. Christ, have mercy on us all.”


Jenny Marrs Turns to ‘Heartland’ for Comfort After Charlie Kirk’s Death

Marrs, who stars on HGTV’s “Fixer to Fabulous,” shared several posts in her Instagram Stories after Kirk’s passing, including a post from the nonpartisan account Builders that condemned the act of violence. Beneath the post, Marrs wrote, “Praying for unity for our nation. We are so deeply divided.”

In the evening, she also found comfort on TV. Marrs posted a photo in her Stories of the series “Heartland” on the TV and wrote a note below, thanking lead actress Amy Marshall for her continued work on the series.

“Watching ‘Heartland’ with my girl,” Marrs wrote. “Sometimes we just need a show that brings us a little joy. I know the work isn’t easy but thank you for continuing to do this.”

Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama, the stars of HGTV’s “Renovation Aloha,” also reacted to the tragedy on their joint Instagram account.

Sharing a post about Kirk’s death in their Instagram Stories, they wrote, “Prayers for his Ohana. Prayers for students present the assassination, prayers for our country. Sad day when you can’t practice your freedom of speech.”

“It’s bigger than beliefs, whether you believe the same things or not,” they continued. “It’s about being able to publicly share your thoughts, your opinions, and values without fear. It’s about college kids being safe on campus. It’s about being able to have conversations whether you agree to disagree but to still have respect for one another, kindness. It’s a sad day. Love others.”

Heather El Moussa, who stars on “The Flip Off” with her husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his ex-wife, Christina Haack, also weighed in via her Instagram Stories on September 10.

In white text on a black background, Heather wrote, “Hard to even express words rn. So much sadness and unnecessary death to innocent humans. Things need to change. heart is so heavy.”
