The last dozen years have been a wild ride for Chip Gaines and his family, following the overwhelming success of his and wife Joanna Gaines’ renovation series “Fixer Upper,” which debuted on HGTV in 2013. The couple has turned that success into an empire that includes product lines, a monthly magazine, and their own cable network, Magnolia.
The couple, who ended 2025 with the airing of “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House” on HGTV and Magnolia, have plenty of irons in the fire. But on January 10, 2026, Chip tweeted that since turning 50 in November 2024, he’s had an increasingly hard time envisioning what the future holds. His vulnerable admission generated supportive and sympathetic comments from many fans.
Chip Gaines Appreciated Insights From Fans Who Are Older Than Him
In Chip’s tweet on January 10, he wrote, “It’s weird.. I’ve always been able to ‘see ahead.’ See the future feels weird to say but basically, instinctively feel or know what was going to happen.. Its been that way since I was a kid. But I’ve NEVER seen myself past 50, but yet here I am. And it feels kinda weird 😰”
Fans quickly flooded the tweet with responses, sympathizing with Chip and sharing supportive comments, including a fan named Billy who wrote, “Just hit 68. Brain still thinks like an 18 year old but the body is protesting more. Got ‘retired’ a few years back and never been busier. Not making money but volunteering, giving back. I can’t see the future but I feel we are turning the ship around and headed toward a brighter future. Love your positive attitude.”
Chip tweeted back, “Love this insight Billy.. thank you”
Another fan told Chip, “Wait until the grandkids start showing up! God knows what he is doing in that the energy needed to watch over kids takes a lot of effort. That’s why as a grandparent you get to give the grandkids back to their parents! I was exhausted over Christmas with my 3 grandkids!”
“Can’t ‘see’ them,” Chip replied, “but DEFINITELY looking forward to those days”
When someone else asked Chip if he was celebrating a birthday, he responded, “No sir.. just feeling old I guess. Ha”
When Chip Gaines Turned 50, He Said There Was ‘No Looking Back’
Magnolia NetworkMany fans offered words of encouragement to Chip, highlighting the benefits and blessings of getting older, including one who tweeted back, “50 is the new 30 except you have more $$$ and time to enjoy the family. Hard work pays off”
Another wrote, “I agree 51 and I am like 50 is the new 40. Hard too when I am seeing a lot of people I went to school with who are passing away at my age put a big perspective on life.”
Someone else reminded Chip, “The seasons of life are amazing like this. And what a great season you are in. The hay has been made, almost all in the barn. You sewed the crop with a tremendous partner, tended to it, now it’s time to enjoy the harvest and what it produces. Enjoy Gaines family. #faithful”
When Chip turned 50, he celebrated by donating $50,000 to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, an organization he and Joanna have long supported, serving seriously ill children and their families.
In a social media post about his birthday gift, he shared his philosophy at the time about getting older, writing, “Halfway to one hundred and no looking back ⚡ As I get older, more and more my heart leans toward what’s really important in life and asking myself the question, ‘What good can I do today?'”

Chip , your last comment of “What good can I do today,” already says, “Turning 50, I Got This!!!” Stay the way, you are which
