Dave & Jenny Marrs Reveal the Surprising Time It Takes to Film HGTV’s ‘Fixer to Fabulous’

Dave and Jenny Marrs are peeling back the curtain to reveal just what goes into making an episode of “Fixer to Fabulous.” The HGTV stars shared the extensive renovation and filming timing required for just one installment of the popular show.

Dave & Jenny Marrs Explain How ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Filming Works

On April 24, Dave and Jenny took to Instagram to answer a popular fan question: How long does it take to make an episode of “Fixer to Fabulous”?

“It’s Friday Q+A time!” they noted in the caption. “Today’s question: How long does it take to film an episode? Drop your questions for next week in the comments below — we love hearing from you! Happy Friday!!”

The short answer is that it takes quite some time to complete a renovation and film it all.

Dave joked that it takes “way too long.”

He continued, “But the real answer … for every 43 minute episode, we film about 120 hours of footage.”

Jenny added, “[It’s] a lot.”

“Our projects — we usually do three to four at a time — and they usually take about 8 to 10 weeks each,” Dave shared.

Jenny noted, “Right now, we have five.”

He continued, “So we’ll start one block, finish it, start another block, finish it … we start filming around February and we finish around December.”

“It’s great!” he added.

Fans lit up the comments section with messages about their love for “Fixer to Fabulous,” with one person noting, “Thank you for all your hard work! We love your show! My favorite.”

“You both work so hard … you deserve as many breaks as you can get,” another fan wrote. “And I’m so glad that you’re willing to share your faith and I think the Lord blesses you because of that. I love you guys.”

One fan asked, “You’re so busy. Do you do any homes besides those for the show?”

Another fan wondered, “How do you find and choose the homeowners?”

Jenny Marrs Answered the Most Asked Fan Question

On February 13, Jenny took to Instagram to answer one of the biggest questions they get asked.

“Welcome to Friday Q+A with Jenny! This week we’re tackling two of your most asked questions,” the HGTV star noted in the caption.

In the video, Jenny explained, “These are hot topics … controversial. I always get these questions every time a new episode airs.”

She continued, “Number 1: why are the books on the bookshelves turned backwards?”

The HGTV star has addressed this question in the past, but revisited the reason behind the design choice.

“We have to follow copyright laws. So, if we show the spine of the book with the title and the author’s name, we have to get a release to do that because it’s not our work,” she explained. “And so we have to be able to release that from the author.”

If there are a lot of books on display, it would be “very hard to do” and “time consuming,” Jenny said.

“So we turn them backwards,” she noted. “Solves the problem and also, aesthetically, it looks really nice because it’s nice and clean on camera.”
