Amid massive flooding in Hawaii, HGTV star Tristyn Kalama updated fans on March 21, 2026. In a video posted to her Instagram Stories, the “Renovation Aloha” star said her family was safe, but asked for prayers for their community.
Authorities are calling the “worst flooding in 20 years,” per USA Today, and Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a news conference, “There’s no question that the damage done thus far has been catastrophic.”
‘Renovation Aloha’ Star Tristyn Kalama Tells Fans Recent Flooding is ‘Tragic’
Tristyn, who co-stars on “Renovation Aloha” with her husband, Kamohai, told fans in her social media video, “O’ahu is getting hit raelly hard again, with a lot of rain, a lot of flooding. It’s not as windy as the last time, but a lot of our North Shore communities are underwater, and it’s tragic. So please pray.”
“We’re safe personally,” she said of her, Kamohai, and their two kids. “But a lot of things are closed, it’s not safe to be out. So if you don’t have to be out, I would highly recommend just staying home.”
Winter is known as the rainy season in Hawaii, Tristyn explained, “but this is probably the craziest winter I’ve seen in a really long time.”
Tristyn also shared video from their home’s deck of pouring rain, noting that her weather app said it was “drizzling.” Scoffing at the report, she asked, “Does that look like a drizzle to you?” and then pointed to the horizon, where a mountain was barely visible amid the heavy rains. She has since shared many fundraising campaigns and food drives in her Stories to help those impacted.
According to Hawaii News Now, Governor Josh Green told reporters on March 20 that he expected over $1 billion in damages, including to “the airports, a major hospital that’s been damaged on Maui, lots of damage at schools, roads, and then of course, the innumerable events that have happened at people’s homes where they’ve lost structure and it will have to be repaired.”
HGTV Will Premiere 3rd Season of ‘Renovation Aloha’ on March 31
When the Kalamas return for a third season of “Renovation Aloha” on March 31, the 12-episode season will include helping a family who lost their home in the devastating 2023 Maui fires.
As they “revitalize the most dilapidated houses in their home state of Hawaii,” HGTV says the couple will face some of their biggest challenges yet, including “rat infestations, squatter evictions and property with a shocking lava tube discovery beneath the lot.” They’ll also take on a “massive multi-home project in Hilo.”
The first episode of the season, premiering on March 31 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, will see them restore an abandoned house in the Manoa neighborhood that’s a plumbing disaster, full of termite damage, and includes a “budget busting surprise,” per HGTV.
