The Hallmark Channel recently debuted the latest from Lacey Chabert, the Hallmark+ series “Paris Is Always a Good Idea.”
In the series, Chabert stars as a career-driven executive who visits Europe in order to connect with the three great loves of her life she left behind. “From the rolling hills of Ireland to the magic of Paris and the sun-kissed vineyards of Spain, Chelsea retraces old footsteps and discovers that sometimes moving forward means first looking back,” reads the synopsis.
On Wednesday, August 5, Chabert was joined by her “Paris Is Always a Good Idea” co-stars Barbara Niven and Scott Michael Foster, who discussed their new series during a panel hosted by the Television Critics Association.
Just Married
Foster recently got married, tying the knot with with actress Carson Fagerbakke. The ceremony took place within a medieveal castle in Gloucestershire, England, on August 1, 2026 — just days after his new Hallmark+ series premiered.
His status as a recent newlywed led to a question about whether all the Hallmark rom-coms he’s been in carried over into his proposal when he popped the question to Faberbakke.
The Hallmark Influence
“I’m sure it influenced me, yeah,” Foster replied.
“I mean, at that point I had done — oh, you know what’s funny is I was actually on set of ‘Return to Office’ when I was planning the engagement. So I was definitely influenced by Hallmark,” he continued.
In fact, he revealed that he took some extreme measures to ensure that everything went perfectly.
“I actually had my sister fly out from Texas to meet me in L.A. with my mom’s wedding ring so I could propose with that,” he recalled.
“And, like, my co-star in the movie knew and then, you know, when my now-wife met her, she was like, ‘I don’t want to ruin the surprise.’ And I was like, ‘You’ll be fine.’ And so yeah, I’m sure Hallmark played a little bit of a role in it, yeah,” he confirmed.
A Hallmark Christmas Proposal
HallmarkAs his co-star Barbara Niven correctly observed, that level of pre-proposal planning would not be out of place in a Hallmark flick. “That needs to be a Hallmark movie,” she exclaimed.
Foster confirmed that he proposed in the traditional manner, dropping down on one knee.
“I did, yeah, in front of the Christmas tree, in front of her family,” Foster recalled.
“I mean, a Hallmark Christmas proposal!” gushed Lacey Chabert, who which Foster agreed, repeating he did indeed deliver “a Hallmark Christmas proposal.”
Quipped Niven: “We think she said yes, that’s all I can say.”
A Surprise Proposal
In a recent interview with Pause Rewind, Foster revealed that he was able to suprise Fagerbakke with his proposal, pulling it off by by hiding the engagement ring beneath the Christmas tree.
“Did it in front of her whole family. She had no idea,” he explained.
“I was like, ‘Hey, there’s one more gift behind the tree,'” he continued, revealing that Fagerbakke thought the small box concealed at the back of the tree was for powering the lights.
He had to become insistent, repeatedly encouraging her to check the small box hidden in the tree.
“It was a little bit of a red herring because then she went around the tree, and when she came back, I was on my knee,” he added.
