David Duchovny Compares ‘Secrets Declassified’ to ‘The X-Files’

Actor David Duchovny is now a popular personality on the History Channel. “The X-Files” star is host of the hit series “Secrets Declassified.” The show explores many cases of government coverups and experiments throughout history. Some of the stories featured on the series seems like cases Mulder and Scully would investigate.

Much like his beloved “X-Files” character Fox Mulder, Duchovny is uncovering the truth about government coverups. Merging history with science, “Secrets Declassified” pops open the lid on long-kept government secrets. Each episode, Duchovny takes viewers on a journey as they learn about UFOs, mind control experiments, and top-notch military weapons.

The History Channel show has become popular with history and sci-fi fanatics, and it’s also drawing similarities to Duchovny’s other TV series. On “The X-Files,” Mulder and Scully (Gillian Anderson) often investigated cases involving aliens and government experiments. Most of the content on “Secrets Declassified” seems like something out of an “X-Files” episode.

”When you see something like that it is something that we would have tackled on the X-Files at some point,” Duchovny told TV Insider. The actor cited one case about the CIA and US Army unleashing bacteria to citizens on the New York subway as a prime example.

”The government is conducting these experiments and I’m like ‘No. That’s not really happening.’ Then it’s, ‘Okay, it did happen. Oh, well.’”

Duchovny, who describes the cases as a mixture of “horrific” and “comedic,” admits he’s not a conspiracy theory thinker like Mulder. However, some of the stories do fascinate him.

“I think penetrating always is how human it always ends up being. It always ends up being someone who has an idea. What if we did this or tried to do this? That is endearing to me. I’m not condoning a lot of what these people were trying to do. But I do appreciate the human imagination.”

Duchovny Shares Thoughts on ‘The X-Files’ Reboot

While Duchovny has gained new legions of fans with “Secrets Declassified,” he’ll always be remembered best as Mulder. Duchovny played the alien-obsessed FBI agent on the Fox series from 1993 to 2002. He and co-star Gillian Anderson later reprised their roles for the Fox revival, which aired from 2016 to 2018.

Now, the hit sci-fi series is getting another reboot, this time from Oscar-winning director Ryan Coogler. The “Sinners” director will collaborate with “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter on the upcoming Hulu reboot which stars Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler.

While Duchovny and Anderson aren’t scheduled to be part of the reboot, the actor wishes nothing but the best for the new cast and crew.

“Obviously, Ryan Coogler is super talented. I’ve always thought the original frame Chris Carter created all those years ago was endless. It’s as endless as these stories. You have a believer and nonbeliever and the way they push each other and that’s the frame of the show. It’s kind of eternal. I hope they can do it.”

While fans won’t see Duchovny in the “X-Files” reboot, they can still catch him on Season 2 of “Secrets Declassified,” airing Tuesdays at 10 pm.
