‘Swamp People’ Star Shocks Fans with Unique Recipe

Bruce Mitchell is one of the stars of the hit History Channel series “Swamp People.” The Louisiana native is always seen wearing his overalls and bandana when alligator hunting. But when Mitchell is competing to capture the biggest gator, he’s home cooking up some Southern delicacies. However, one of his recent recipes left had fans doing a double take.

Fried Spider Legs

Growing up in Louisiana, Mitchell enjoyed many Cajun and Southern dishes. Now, he’s sharing some of his favorite recipes on his YouTube channel.

Dressed in his usual attire of overalls and bandana, Mitchell teaches his 536,000 subscribers how to make some delicious Louisiana dishes. Mitchell’s videos often consist of seafood dishes such as shrimp and crawfish boils, and alligator nuggets.

But he also includes sides and desserts such as broccoli cheese casserole and blueberry cobbler. While fans love watching Mitchell’s cooking tutorials, one recent video had them confused.

On April 24th, the star posted a video titled “Fried Spider Legs.” Fans were immediately grossed out thinking he was actually cooking the insect parts. However, when the video progressed, they realized it was something completely different.

“Alright y’all, we’re getting these spider legs out of here. What is a spider leg? Well, I’m cutting these shrimps to make something else,” Mitchell explained as he prepped the seafood.

“And y’all know we don’t like wasting anything down here,” he then removed a shrimp head for cooking later. “We’re going to roll that in fish fry and we’re going to fry it. It’s going to be good.”

After removing the shrimp heads, Mitchell then prepped and seasoned the batter before putting them in the frying pan. When cooking, Mitchell pointed out how they open up, which resembles “spider legs.” Once they were “nice and crispy,” it was time to taste test them.

“I don’t know who thought about this, but it was a good idea,” Mitchell proclaimed before he took a bite of the crunchy treat.

While Mitchell’s spider legs video first shocked fans, many loved the new recipe. “I for sure thought he was frying up actual spider legs lol. You learn something new every day,” wrote one user.

“Next time I get shrimp, I’m trying this for sure. Thanks,” one follower replied.

“Looks pretty amazing! I’ll take a bowl of that and a cold beer!” declared one subscriber.

Awaiting New Season

Mitchell is one of the original cast members of “Swamp People” and a fan favorite among viewers. The series follows local hunters who search for alligators in the swamps of Louisiana. With alligator season lasting only one month, the hunters must get a certain number of tags before their 30 days are up.

The show has become a hit for the History Channel and wrapped up Season 17 on April 15, 2026. With alligator season coming up in September, cameras will be down in Louisiana to film the cast for Season 18.

Until then fans can check out Mitchell’s videos for more of the star’s culinary skills. Perhaps he can fry up some more spider legs or alligator dishes.
